Could this £17m forward be the perfect fit for Tottenham?

Burak YilmazWhilst the likes of Robin Van Persie, Luis Suarez and Robert Lewandowski spent last season bolstering their reputations and becoming European football’s hottest properties, we also saw the rise of Burak Yilmaz.

Last season, the Turkish striker established himself as one of the deadliest strikers in world football. He may not be a house-hold name, like any of the aforementioned forwards, but I’d argue he’s an equally attractive propositions.

After all, he scores goals for fun and has a considerably smaller price-tag than the likes of Luis Suarez and RVP (who knows what Lewandowski will go for – he’s in the last year of his contract).

Yilmaz has scored an incredible 87 goals in the last three years. Let’s break that down a little: he scored 32 goals in 39 appearances last season (including top-scoring the Champions League group stage with six goals), the season before that he scored 35 goals and back in 2010-11 he found the back of the net 20 times. Scoring seems to have become something of a habit for the Galatasaray forward.

So it’s a little surprising that more clubs haven’t started circling around the 27-year-old. Surely he’s  ready for a step up to a top League?

Tottenham could be about to right this wrong. According to The Mirror, Andre Villas-Boas is willing to part with £17m to bring Yilmaz to White Hart Lane.

This should have Spurs fans very excited indeed. We all know about the problems they’ve had upfront.

Indeed, I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to suggest that if Spurs had an in form striker, they would have secured Champions League football last season. As it was, however, Jermaine Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor weren’t up to the task.

The two forwards never really found their feet. Adebayor spent most of the season looking like he didn’t give a damn. As a result, Spurs were forced to lean heavily on Gareth Bale, but even their Welsh wizard couldn’t drag them over the line.

Bringing in a goal-scoring centre-forward like Burak Yilmaz could be just the ticket. £17m for a player with his scoring record strikes me as something of a bargain. Besides, if he helps Spurs to a top four slot next summer, he’ll more or less have paid for himself.

What’s your take? Would Burak Yilmaz be a good addition for this goal-shy Spurs side?

    Most definitely worth a gamble
good finisher can use both feet not the fastest but very instinctive and natural out and out striker

also extremely good in the air and scores a lot of headers only problem is he needs the service but having said that he has also scored some great individual goals aswell
definitely an upgrade and a better presence than ade and defoe

Most dangerous when he is having a quiet game as he just seems to pop up
