Could this Manchester United mainstay be on his way out of the club?

Nemanja-Vidic-Manchester-United-Champions-Lea_2688049Nemaja Vidic has been an integral part of this Manchester United side since 2006. There’s simply no telling exactly how much his presence has meant to the Red Devils. Through thick and thin, injury and health, the Serbian centre-back has been United’s rock.

The 31-year-old has won five Premier League titles with Manchester United, three League Cups and one Champions League winner medal. To put things in perspective, Arsenal have won nothing since Vidic moved to England. Vidic, on the other hand has a bulging trophy cabinet. The man is a born winner.

Let’s not forget, he’s also won two Premier League Player of the Season awards, so is well respected by pundits and peers alike.

Unfortunately, his combative playing style may have taken his toll on his career. Whilst he’s enjoyed some massive highs whilst at Manchester United, the lows may start coming quicker and quicker, now that he is into his 30s.

His willingness to dive into tackles, throw his body about and leave his foot in has seen him attract injuries with a startling ease. This has been particularly troublesome over the last couple of years.

Last season he made just 23 appearances. The season before that he only managed 10 games. This is a man who would probably be the first name on the Manchester United team-sheet were he fully fit. As it is, however, he’s had to spend a lot of time on the bench.

According to The Mirror, his difficulties over the last couple of years haven’t put AC Milan off. The Serie A club are keen on the Serbian centre-back and view him as the ideal partner for Philippe Mexes.

This, I think, puts David Moyes and Manchester United in a very interesting position. Do they cash in on Nemanja Vidic now, whilst they can still get a (relatively) decent price for him, or do they hope that he’ll be able to put his injury difficulties behind him?

With David Moyes coming in, I hope it’s out with the old and in with the new. Vidic has been a loyal servant for Manchester United, but the club has to look forward. Somebody needs to be brought in who can be relied upon for 30-40 games a season.

That man may well be Benfica’s Ezequiel Garay. We’ll just have to wait and see.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United really cut ties with Nemanja Vidic?
