Which of these two big-money strikers is a better fit for Arsenal?

Stevan JoveticFor the last six months, Arsenal’s main transfer target, if you believe the Papers, has been Stevan Jovetic. We’ve all heard endless rumours regarding the Montenegrin’s future and more than one publication has suggested that his Arsenal move is a done deal.

So what do we make of all the speculation surrounding Arsenal and Gonzalo Higuain?

Spanish source Sport.es (via fanatix) claim that the Argentinian forward has agreed a five-year deal with the North London club and that Real Madrid have accepted an £18.6m fee for is services.

These are bold claims considering the transfer window is yet to re-open, but the fact that so many sources have thrown out precise figures and suggested that a deal is already done is intriguing. Where has this particular rumour surfaced from?

As we don’t know anything regarding the strength of Arsenal’s links to either Jovetic or Higuain, all we can do is speculate over which player would make a better for a better fit.

As they’re both forwards, a good place to start is to look at their goal-scoring records. Jovetic, who plays primarily as a secondary striker has scored just 12 times in 33 games this season. Whilst this isn’t exactly a poor return, it’s a step down on last season’s 14 goals in 29 games.

Higuain has faired a little better, scoring 16 goals in 42 games (many of which he started on the subs bench). Better still, he grabbed 26 goals last season, proving that he’s a top goal-scorer.

I think Higuain has the potential to settle quicker into the Premier League. His movement is fantastic and he’s always looking to take up a smart position. He could be the 25+ goal striker that Arsenal need.

Whilst Jovetic is more of a risk, I would argue that the pay-off could be higher. Jovetic’s quick feet, technical ability and footballing nous have put him among Europe’s finest young players. If his goal-scoring record improves, the Gunners could get their hands on their very own Luis Suarez.

Arsenal are used to playing against two walls of four and the Montenegrin’s trickery could help to unlock a few back-fours and put the Gunners in goal-scoring positions.

In an ideal world, Arsene Wenger would snap up both players, but that’s never exactly been his way. If Arsenal only sign one striker this summer, I hope it’s Stevan Jovetic.

What’s your take? Who’d fit in better at the Emirates, Jovetic or Higuain?

It remains on player’s decision where to go. I normally do not much believe on rumours! Haguian, Jovetic, David Villa once reported Arsenal targets, then all of them Juventus wants to hijack! I head also for Benteke! So Juve is waiting Arsenal to identify potential transfers for them to raid? Does the team have long-term plans? Similarly, Totenham; my question: don’t these teams have long-term plans? Whatever the case, Arsenal needs quality strikers (2), defensive midfielder (1 or 2) and fullback right (1);a centreback (1) will be not a bad idea. I still believe that, Conquelin is another future steel in the midfield for Arsenal, do not sell but loan him to high profile club for a season long. Can be sent to fulham, Aston Villa, Norwich, West Brom where he can get to be used. Podolski and Giroud are perfect when there are other strong strikers. The team can not depend solely on a single strikers it has to have options. To be sincere, what makes Man Utd win is the availability of quality options per position and a quality Coach. We have a quality coach but no options in the bench per position!! This is what is lacking at arsenal.
