Should Tottenham really go after this sensational £20m talent?

Miralem PjanicTottenham have spent the last couple of seasons building a formidable, technically gifted midfield that’s capable of guiding them to a top four finish.

They’ve recently added players like Lewis Holtby and Moussa Dembele to the ranks along with others like Gylfi Sigurdsson. And whilst these players have settled in nicely (though I expect there’s more to come from Holtby), I still think Tottenham could improve in this area.

Andre Villas-Boas has had an excellent first season at White Hart Lane. But if he’s to build on it next year, he’ll need to make further additions.

This brings me to The Sun‘s claims that Tottenham are among the clubs on the trail of Roma’s talented play maker, Miralem Pjanic. This, I think, is pretty exciting news.

The Yugoslavian born midfielder has put in a series of sensational performances since joining the Serie A side back in summer 2011 and has even caught the attention of the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal. AVB is likely to have a fair amount of competition for his signature, should he try to snap him up.

When he moved from Lyon, Roma paid just £9m. Now, it’s claimed that Pjanic could cost upwards of £20m. He’s doubled his price-tag in just two seasons.

And at just 23-years-old, the potential he’s shown is fantastic. Who’s to say that he wont double his price tag over the length of his next contract?

He could end up being Tottenham’s next Luka Modric, a player bought up at market price and later sold for an incredible amount of money.

But it’s what he’d offer Tottenham footbally speaking, that’s the real draw. Pjanic oozes confidence on the ball. He has a natural ability to turn into space, buy himself time and then pick out the perfect pass. His range is fantastic and this, combined with his vision and finesse, make him a real draw.

Whether Spurs are willing to invest this kind of money is an altogether different question. After all, the main priority this summer will be signing a centre-forward. But should AVB be willing to stump up the cash, he’ll get the real deal in return.

So let’s hope Spurs can see off their rivals and get their man.

What’s your take? Should Tottenham be in the market for Miralem Pjanic, or do their priorities lie elsewhere?

Good player but I would rather we got a player with good ball skills but more pace like Griezmann or Muniain. If Bale or Lennon are missing badly lack pace in attack

I followed Olympic Lyonnais, he was a tidy player but nothing overly special. He couldn’t even break into the Roma side as a regular. There’s absolutely no way he’s worth e20 mill. We can get better in the middle of the park for that kind of money. For him, £10 mill tops.

Midfield is strong with parker going ,who’s too tell, no doubting we need a finisher up front

We are linked with so many . After next week there will be more .
Depends on who we can sell, & that 4 th spot how much D.L. gets to spend on players.
& he has the new stadium complex to budget for.
We all know how tough D.L. can be striking a deal .
I think Adeyboy , JD, Bennie , Parker , Livermore & Gallas will be up for sale.
With Danny Rose & Andros T back from loan…..new strikers please D.L.
