Marouane FellainiAfter starting this year’s Premier League in sensational form (including notching a goal against Manchester United), Marouane Fellaini’s season has gone a little off the boil.

There was a time, when all we’d hear about was Fellaini’s desires to move on, the release clause written into his contract and the number of suitors who were chasing him.

Whilst this was doubtless extremely frustrating for Everton fans, the speculation surrounding his future was justified. For half-a-season, Fellaini played out of his skin. He looked like a man who deserved to play his football at the very top level.

Then, as the January transfer window came and went and Fellaini found himself stuck at Goodison Park, his form seemed to dip. He’s still played gamefully and thrown in a number of decent performances, but the same zip hasn’t been there.

It wouldn’t surprise me, therefore, if he had found himself distracted by the media circus that surrounds him at Everton. Every time he plays well, there’s a story about how ‘Club X’ and ‘Club Y’ are interested in him. That can’t be healthy when it comes to Fellaini’s mindset.

And now that David Moyes has been installed as Manchester United boss, speculation is only going to increase. The big Belgium is arguably Everton’s big prize (barring Leighton Baines) and if Moyes can take him over to Old Trafford with him, I’m sure he’ll be keen to do so. Having Fellaini in tow is sure to help ease him in during the transitionary period.

Well aware of the relationship between Moyes and Fellaini, the papers seem to be having a field day. The Metro was particularly brazen, running with some quotes from the big Belgium and providing their own interpretation. Here’s what Fellaini said:

“Every player wants to play in the Champions League. That is the big competition. I hope I can do it with Everton. I’m happy here. I’ve been at the club for five years. I’m happy because I know everybody.

For my future, I want to play in England. The Premier League is the best league. Here there are five, six, seven, eight teams, all of whom think they are good enough to play in the Champions League and want that.”

As he mentions Champions League football, The Metro have positioned his quotes as a kind of ‘come-get-me’ plea to Manchester United.

This may be a little disingenuous, but it would make sense. Manchester United have just lost Scholes and may well be on the hunt for some midfield reinforcements.

Fellaini would certainly tick a few boxes. He’s big, he’s powerful, he’s strong in the air, he’s technically gifted and he scores goals. What’s not to love?

Here’s hoping Moyes can persuade him to make the move.

What’s your take? Would you like to see the Big Belgium join his old manager at Manchester United?

Utter crap ! He is playing at a very high level and next season Everton will make the champs league without Moyes to hold them back with his negative tactics . Everton will now have a chance hopefully to play some of the youngsters like Barkley and co because one thing Moyes doesn’t like is young players that he hasn’t signed himself.
