Julio CesarWhilst Arsenal are smack-bang in the middle of a showdown with Chelsea and Tottenham for a top four slot, Arsene Wenger must surely have his eye on a different long-term goal. The Frenchman must already be scouring the transfer market, looking for players who could add competitive edge to his squad. This summer, he’ll be looking to make Arsenal a side that is capable of challenging for silverware.

And I’m sure he’ll be looking to build from the back. Arsenal’s goalkeeping situation needs addressing — and quick.

Wojciech Szczesny seems to have re-established himself as the Gunners number one, but there remain questions over his mentality. Does the Pole have what it takes to cut the errors from his game and re-assert once more as one of the finest young keepers in the game? This question isn’t easy to answer.

Whilst there remain question marks over his Arsenal future, transfer speculation is sure to grow.

This is surely why The Metro has linked Julio Cesar to Arsenal. They claim that the Brazilian shot-stopper is set to quit QPR this summer and is ready to make a move to the Emirates.

At 33-years-old, I’m not surprised that Cesar is weighing up his career options. A player with his reputation wont want to see out the rest of his career scrapping away in the Championship. He’ll fancy a move to a top club where he can re-build his reputation and challenge for silverware.

His agent, Josias Cardoso has already confirmed that Cesar is ready to move on: “I’m coming to Europe to talk to Julio about the future. He is looking for a new team with potential.”

Whilst he hasn’t covered himself in glory at QPR, Cesar hasn’t let the Rs down either. There’s no reason to doubt that he’s still a top keeper with at least another four-or-so years left in him.

The Metro also claims that Harry Redknapp would be willing to let go of Cesar for around £5m. This seems pretty generous of  ‘Arry, but QPR getting relegated may well have forced his hand. This price-tag is sure to attract Arsene Wenger, who’s always on the lookout for a bargain.

He could be the ideal stop-gap keeper for Arsenal. Somebody who could man the fort until Szczesny is ready for the big-time. This is a move that makes a lot of sense.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal make a move for Julio Cesar?

Julio Cesar stands out as one of the best goalkeepers.33yrs is a good age for a goalkeeper who can go on until 40yrs.This gives room for our young keeper to mature. He can be a good signing
