How a club with the financial fire-power of Chelsea has spent the entirety of this season without a good striker is beyond me.
Fernando Torres is no longer a footballer. He is a punchline. Whilst I appreciate that he has scored 23 times this season, his finishing ability is far below that expected by a Chelsea striker in the modern age. Let’s not forget that those 23 goals came in 64 games. That’s basically one goal every three games.
Former Newcastle ace Demba Ba looked like a good signing at the time, but he’s been a disappointment. 6 goals in 21 games is extremely underwhelming. Whilst there’s a good chance he’ll kick-on next season, I wouldn’t put too much money on it.
Chelsea can and should do better. Roman Abramovich has never been afraid to splash the cash, so why didn’t the Blues sign another big-name striker sooner? If Chelsea had replaced Didier Drogba properly, what could they have achieved?
There’s no point dwelling in the past. Rafa Benitez’s replacement certainly wont. He’ll be looking to stamp his mark on the side quickly and the best way to do this will be to sign a world-class striker? But who should they go after?
According to The Mirror, Chelsea have asked Manchester United to name their price for Wayne Rooney. There’s talk of a £30m move for the England International forward and the Blues are also willing to match his current £250k-a-week salary. They quote a source who says the following:
“They are prepared to spend, big, big money on Rooney and they have told United that. Mourinho would love to manage Rooney. He thinks he can get him back to his best and use him in a similar way to how Didier Drogba operated for Chelsea.”
Whilst Wayne Rooney and Didier Drogba aren’t really comparable I do think that this would be a good move for both club and player.
Wayne needs a change of surroundings and Chelsea need a world-class forward. Love him or hate him, Rooney is a natural goalscorer who plays with pride and passion. In a way, he’s like Fernando Torres’ opposite.
£30m is a lot of money, but if it brings success back to Stamford Bridge, it would be money well spent.

Naa Utd can keep Rooney, too much sulking and poor attitude when he’s not playing every game. He’s past his best and not worth more than 15 Mil.. lets get a proper striker who’s firing on all four cylinders …. 6, 8 or 12 would be better

I think he would be a great signing but 250k a week is way too much for someone who only scored 24x in 2 seasons in premier league for that kind of wage we should get ronaldo who scored 100 goals in 2 seasons we need 1 good cb and 1 good st who can score 35+goals than we can think about winning the league we have had weak performance last 2 season but still won fa cup champions league and uafa cup so if we play good imagine what we can do !!!!

rooney is good in midfield and can score some wonderful goals playing behind striker he also have passes tecnic but he cant replace Didier Drogba so get him and also get a good finisher even if not big name and add with Lukaku) BA / Torres then u can even play 4 4 2 formation tanks up chelsea for life
We dont want striker like Rooney at stamford bridge & splashing huge cash on this deal is just a matter of wasting money. Abromavic, just buy us agood finisher like Cavani or Benteke. We have very good squad but what we are lucking is a finisher. I hope Roman will think & spend well
I really don’t think Chelsea has any interest in Rooney. Chelsea’s new habit is to spend big on young players and less on players in their late twenties. Rooney would have to come really cheap to have a chance. Also many Chelsea fans would not take to Rooney because he has been at United so long. They won’t what help for United!
