Why Arsenal should grant this striker his ‘dream’ move:

|

Andreas CorneliusI don’t know if there’s a more offensive moniker in world football, than to be dubbed, ‘the new Nicklas Bendtner’.

Isn’t that just shorthand for a player who blew his big shot and flushed his career down the toilet?

I’m sure the young player in question, FC Copenhagen’s striker Andreas Cornelius won’t be flattered by the comparison. Indeed, if he were to ever hear that he’d been dubbed this, I’m sure his next move would be rock back and forth on the floor of a cold shower.

Perhaps I’m being unfair to Nicklas Bendtner here – a player who clearly had talent, but also has a wild, petulant streak that has held him back. Let’s hope that this comparison only hammers the point home to young Cornelius: it pays to keep your head down and work hard.

But there’s a reason that I’m nattering on about this player that goes beyond my dislike of the media dubbing players ‘the new so and so’, or ‘the next whatshisname’. It’s because he’s been linked to Arsenal.

Yes, Arsenal, Bendtner’s old club. The other similarities that Andreas Cornelius shares with Bendtner are as follows: he’s tall (6ft4), he’s Danish and is an out and out striker.

Unlike Bendtner, he’s mature beyond his age and has some serious ambition: ‘The Premier League is the best league in the world, and I would love to play in it. That is my dream.’ (Source: The Metro)

But should Arsenal make this move happen?

Whilst most fans will be hoping for some big name signings this summer, you can bet that Arsene Wenger will also be looking at young players who can secure the long-term future of his club.

And Cornelius looks like a real talent. The centre-forward has scored 14 goals in 20 matches this season and is one of the most promising talents in the Danish Superliga. He’s also renowned for being good with his feet as well as strong in the air (a quality that Bendtner couldn’t always rely on).

Whilst I doubt that Cornelius would have a role in the Arsenal first team for the next couple of seasons, he could end up being an important player in the long-term.

And given that he’d be a relatively inexpensive purchase at this juncture, it makes sense that Arsene Wenger would snap him up now.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal be looking at young talent like Andreas Cornelius?

He is not ‘the new Bendtner’. He has better technic and maturerity. And unlike Bendy he is a quick young player who aren’t lazy(sleepy) as Bendy. Cornelius keep his mouth shut and he think Messi is the greatest player in this world. Unlike Bendy who says he is the best.
