Christmas Turkeys: Celtic prove that Sporting Integrity only goes one way

It seems that in a short few months the SPL has gone from Sell Out Saturday to Buy One Get One Free. For Celtic’s next two home games over the festive period, the SPL champs will be giving away two free tickets to 5000 “lucky” season ticket holders.

The official website states, “As a special festive thank you to all of our season ticket holders we’d like to offer you the chance to claim TWO complimentary tickets for use by friends or family at either our match at Celtic Park against St Mirren on Saturday, December 15 or the home game against Ross County on Saturday, December 22”.  Aberdeen has also offered its season ticket holders a similar deal for their game against Kilmarnock in the SPL.  This after both clubs offered their tickets for sale on Groupon, the online discount website deal of the day.

The boast that fans would flock back to an SPL without Rangers seems to have been nothing more than foolish bravado. Celtic’s home attendances are verging on the same levels as when the club went bust, and were bought over by Fergus McCann in 1994. Only this year’s Champions League money has kept the heating on at Celtic Park.

You would think that someone in the Scottish football press would highlight the state that the so-called top tier in Scottish Football has got itself into.  But no one in the media seems to be brave enough to highlight the stupidity of the SPL chairmen who voted Rangers out of the league on the word of the fans of these clubs that they would return in numbers if the now discredited Sporting Integrity was upheld.

It appears the supporters of all these clubs were lying when they said they would back their clubs. The authorities who run the game in Scotland continue to stick their heads in the sand and ignore the fact that the SPL in Scotland is on life support and the plug may be getting pulled at any moment.

The reality now for the SPL clubs is that from next season there will be no need to purchase a season ticket. They got away with it this year as most season books were already sold prior to Rangers demotion to the third division. There hasn’t been a single “sold out” sign put up outside any game and the new challenges have failed to happen.

SPL chairmen must be feeling worried as they watch Celtic, with their Champions League money buy yet another SPL title and move into the comfort zone financially while they struggle to pay the bills. With Rangers in the third division and the SPL won before a ball is kicked, Celtic now have a clear run at the Champions League money each season that will probably keep the wolves from the door at Celtic Park. It seems Sporting Integrity only goes one way. Celtic CEO Peter Lawwell must be laughing all the way to the bank as he sits down to his Christmas lunch knowing that turkeys, at least those that run the SPL clubs, do indeed vote for Christmas.

Just one small point here, if, as you say, Celtic “are buying” the SPL title with the CL money, at least we are doing so with our money, unlike your lot, we’re not robbing the countless small businesses, the taxman, the hospitals and the armed forces of vital monies.
Get ower yersel ya muppet, the fact that Sevco were allowed into the SFL is a scandal, and now we get Bigot Ramsay telling all the knuckledragging morons that he’ll get them into English football really takes the biscuit, must’ve been reading Chico’s book of “how to get out of tight corners, when the rest of the world know yer tellin porkies”.

Hee Hee!! Rangers fans warning chairmen about recklessness with finances. It’s just delicious!

“The boast that fans would flock back to an SPL without Rangers seems to have been nothing more than foolish bravado.”

Nice one, you managed to sum up the actions of all spl fans by talking about just talking about celtic fans…how good a researcher you must be…

the eleven other clubs, on the most part, are getting better numbers than ever, maybe not kilmarnock or st johnstone, but certainly aberdeen hibs and motherwell.

celtic fans support has dwindled in the spl yes, but if it werent for the very costly champions league matches and the already overpriced spl games, it would be a very similar attendance number to last year. once celtics european adventure ends (hopefully it doesn’t), the attendances will rise for them in the spl.

    • geemac says:

Motherwell’s average attendance has dropped by 934 per game. ICT have also dropped even though they are second in the league. No team in the league is getting higher crowds than ever with the exception of Ross County.

I believe the above posts have said it all.

Yawn more brain dead guff from sevconian fans.
Rangers died, Sevco had no right to be in the SPL and needed rules to be broken to get into the SFL.
You deluded fools believe all this holding company shite that Green and Traynor and Jardine feed you as they live very well on your money.
Gullible.doesn’t even begin to describe you people. Such a shame.

  • jockybhoy says:

You are right CyberTed! Sporting integrity does go one way! Without it you can’t survive (hence OldRangers going bust and NewRangers starting in Div3) and with it you gain success (all teams in the SPL will average higher revenue this year than last). This Armageddon is great!

As for the rest of your article – self-deluding cyberpish of the highest order. Merry Christmas.

  • john says:

i cant believe what ive just read, every club is having trouble filling seats at the moment,i noticed loads of empty seats at man city,ac milan any club in england and europe ,do people think that once rangers get back to the spl all these fans are suddenly going to appear, they were never there before rangers got kicked out.im a rangers fan and i do think that the punishment was right but we need strong edinburgh clubs so the league is competitive by the time we get back to the spl.

  • josh hogan says:

Rangers weren’t voted out of the SPL – they went out of business. They were never voted out or demoted – they ceased to exist.

Not sure there is any logic to your argument that Celtic’s sportive integrity is compromised by being the best. Someone has to be and if you can do it while paying your taxes and without running up debts you’ll never pay, all the better.

  • Gerry says:

Cyberted dont let those guys get you down, I love your post, it’s great!

I think it’s a tongue in cheek satirical article and as such it is a winner.

You have missed one obvious event that could have added to the teasing of the timmites. That being Mr Greens published attentendances as compared to the figures issued by strathclyde police ander a freedom of information request.

The guy is so smart he even managed to pull the wool over the old bill adding 9,000 fans to the official attendance figures just to annoy Peter Lawwell and the Opus Dei conspirators at the SFA, whaddaguy!!!

  • Tully says:

Cyberturd has crawled out from under his stone to surpass himself with a totally embarrassing article that appears to be written by a13 year old!

Your bitterness is funny to read as I bet you zombies actually believe this crap but we all know Scottish football would be better off without the knuckle dragging orcs that hide their bigotry behind a defunct football badge.

  • Eoin says:

    Bollocks as usual

  • johan says:

what a load of nonsense.. factually incorrect nonsense I might add. first up rangers were not voted OUT of te SPL. a vote was held to deny the newco IN. Rangers weren’t bust.. they ceased to exist, lst their share in te SPL. they were not voted or booted out of anything. everything that has happened to Rangers is of their OWN making stop trying to pass the buck. secondly did you bother doing any research fr the piece at all? Aberdeen, Dundee Utd, Hibs & St Johnstone are all showing INCREASES in attendances at the equivalent time to last year.. explain that. finally (& I’m not a Celtic supporter) whilst you are Illinois your ground itch cut price ticket in he 3rd div they are in the last 16 of the champions league flying the flag superbly for the SPL. so get over yourself and accept that THE rangers current plight was of their own making & stop tryingo blame everyone else

  • HectorsHoose says:

When Celtic went bust ? Eh ? Whit ?

    Stupid stupid sevcovian.

Hope we never ever play Phoenix Franchise The 140 year lie The rangers.

  • Fat Sally says:

What a lot of pish. Oh wait!, it was scribbled or should that be dribbled, by a 3rd division Sevco gump. Say no more, eh?
