Christmas Turkeys: Celtic prove that Sporting Integrity only goes one way

It seems that in a short few months the SPL has gone from Sell Out Saturday to Buy One Get One Free. For Celtic’s next two home games over the festive period, the SPL champs will be giving away two free tickets to 5000 “lucky” season ticket holders.

The official website states, “As a special festive thank you to all of our season ticket holders we’d like to offer you the chance to claim TWO complimentary tickets for use by friends or family at either our match at Celtic Park against St Mirren on Saturday, December 15 or the home game against Ross County on Saturday, December 22”.  Aberdeen has also offered its season ticket holders a similar deal for their game against Kilmarnock in the SPL.  This after both clubs offered their tickets for sale on Groupon, the online discount website deal of the day.

The boast that fans would flock back to an SPL without Rangers seems to have been nothing more than foolish bravado. Celtic’s home attendances are verging on the same levels as when the club went bust, and were bought over by Fergus McCann in 1994. Only this year’s Champions League money has kept the heating on at Celtic Park.

You would think that someone in the Scottish football press would highlight the state that the so-called top tier in Scottish Football has got itself into.  But no one in the media seems to be brave enough to highlight the stupidity of the SPL chairmen who voted Rangers out of the league on the word of the fans of these clubs that they would return in numbers if the now discredited Sporting Integrity was upheld.

It appears the supporters of all these clubs were lying when they said they would back their clubs. The authorities who run the game in Scotland continue to stick their heads in the sand and ignore the fact that the SPL in Scotland is on life support and the plug may be getting pulled at any moment.

The reality now for the SPL clubs is that from next season there will be no need to purchase a season ticket. They got away with it this year as most season books were already sold prior to Rangers demotion to the third division. There hasn’t been a single “sold out” sign put up outside any game and the new challenges have failed to happen.

SPL chairmen must be feeling worried as they watch Celtic, with their Champions League money buy yet another SPL title and move into the comfort zone financially while they struggle to pay the bills. With Rangers in the third division and the SPL won before a ball is kicked, Celtic now have a clear run at the Champions League money each season that will probably keep the wolves from the door at Celtic Park. It seems Sporting Integrity only goes one way. Celtic CEO Peter Lawwell must be laughing all the way to the bank as he sits down to his Christmas lunch knowing that turkeys, at least those that run the SPL clubs, do indeed vote for Christmas.

Ask Charles Green how many tickets he gives away for every game at Ibrox. I know a guy who runs a team that use Murray Park once a week , he got 70 tickets for a recent game, think it was Stirling Albion. He managed to give away less than 20.

  • Jay Brown says:

We feel your pain Cyberted — although we don’t share it. Enjoy life in the bottom tier….while Celtic pick up 25M-30M playing in the CL.

  • Kauto Star says:

Yawn. Such a stupid article which is factually incorrect. However, you keep believing what you want.

  • Nick says:

Wow, you really don’t understand the meaning of Sporting Integrity do you? It has absolutely nothing to do with how much money you can make.

    How embarrassing.

  • larry says:

Oh my. Talk about missing the point.

  • thai says:

The fans in Scotland told their chairmen they would not renew season tickets if oldco were allowed to remain in the SPL. After liquidation the club did not meet criteria for membership. How many clubs have had a drop in season tickets ? none.

Fans never said they would fill stadiums – only that they would RENEW season tickets. Newclub do not even meet the criteria for SFL membership but were given special dispensation ie rules were bent to allow them into the league. Money can’t buy History but it can give you a new start.

  • Shooglenifty says:

Must be taking a leaf out of Chucky Green’s book.

Will be interesting to see Sevo’s books at the end of the season. Celtic can well afford to give free tickets away for the rest of the season after our continual soujourn in the ECL. A competion Sevco will be doing well to see again after Chucky does a runner with the cash those mugs forked out. Ye won’t have a pot to piss in.

More mince from Cyberted here, but then again….nothing new there.

  • Wake up your club is dead and wrong says:

Your a complete idiot, thought ppl who write articles are suppose to be unbiased. Keep crying that your club is no more, Celtic never folded so that shows you know nothing, and being from a different part of the world I could tell you the spl is showing more so now then any year. And the compitition is better as they are fighting for a Europe place. Must be hard watching your newco play knowing its to hard for yous

  • Shooglenifty says:

    WATP

    We Aren’t Tax Payers.

Tick, tock, tick tock, we’re comin’ for tainted titles next……..tick tock.

You can get rid of those laughable stars on yer jersey too. Only kiddin’ yerselfs folks!!

  • Aitcho says:

Dundee Utd, Hibs, Aberdeen, Dundee,All showing an increase. Celtic will survive, earned more from 1 competition than Sevco earned from your 5oo,ooo,ooo fans share issue, so get a life!….. Oh and btw, Sevco v Motherwell, and Inverness Cal? league Cup? Free tickets? ring any bells? Seasons greetings to the Fourth Tier.

  • The Equaliser says:

Wow, this guy is still really hurting isn’t he? Seems that unlike the Sporting Integrity, the Obsession is a 2 way street!

  • Moonbeams says:

    Rangers weren’t ‘demoted’.

    Ranges went bust. Remember?

They had to apply for membership as a newco. Remember?

You talk about telling the true story? Why not attempt it yourself.

The tribute act playing at Ibrox is lucky that the sfl permitted a newco to enter despite not having 3 years of accounts, which the rules demand.

Never mind. When those big Yorkshire hands are back down south, you can always have another share issue.

  • weetim67 says:

Seems like an ex-fan of the now non-existent club which used to be called rangers is a little bitter. They seem to forget that the new almost six month old club they now follow has tickets priced around two quid, the price if a beer!Would that beer be a bitter by any chance?

  • Andyboy says:

Its ‘so-called’ because of the fact that it is the top tier. Shame rangers fans only flock to a newco and never did to the oldco when it mattered. Only interested when they can tryn pick a fight about something like the purchase of history.

  • HoudiniBhoy says:

It would appear that you are buying into the propaganda that Mr Green spouts. There isn’t an ounce of bitterness in you CyberTed and it doesn’t show through… ‘Onest!!

  • deariedearieme says:

Pmsl. Amongst many bits of nonsense my favourite has to be SPL chairmen…worried… Celtic CL money buy another title. As opposed to stealing from the taxman to pay for a few titles? Honest endeavours v corporate theft that results in the death of a footballing entity. Yea worried is the word. Sevco turkeys etc. Happy 1st xmas btw.

  • sands1888 says:

What a fucking object you are. A pure trumpet. No rangers no demotion and youll out of business by the end of tge season you balloon

  • gb says:

never read so much crap in all my life..Celtic are getting 40000 just now and that in a one horse league is an amazing attendance..The only reason Rangers are selling all their seats is simple…The propaganda spouted by Green and Co, the rallying call, the cheap price of seats, the noone likes us we dont care attitude..all these factors are behind the sevco attendances and the mugs are buying into the drivel spouted by Comical Charle

  • John says:

Your article is lies from beginning to end. Rangers died. They were never voted out of the top flight. The clubs decided to fairly apply the rules. Rangers were liquidated, according to UEFA that means dead. If the company that owns the club goes bust the club is dead.

Only in Scotland is their a desperate attempt being made to ignore this. 276 creditors left unpaid. Tax evasion to the tune of tens of millions means cheating. All caused because Rangers bought titles throughout the 90s and swaggered and boasted about it. They are doing the same in the lower divisions. Second biggest wage bill in Scotland in the third division.

The new entity has pulled in fantastic crowds for a lower division club. However, the very violent clash against Annan, knife fights outside, pulled in less than 30,000. Rangers say 42,000 because all season ticket holders are included automatically. Celtic do the same.

However, their is a major difference. It is 29 quid to get into Celtic Park. It is 15 to get into Ibrox. It will cost at least 15 for a kid at Celtic Park while it is a fiver at Fraudulent Towers. It is cheaper than the pictures at what ever it is to be called. There are well over 20,000 weans at every home game because you Sevcovians are reknowned for watching your pennies (well you weren’t spending them on shares were you).

Watch the crowds next season. Charlie will raise prices at Ibrox by quite a lot as he has his short term investors to satisfy quickly while, if they have any sense, Celtic will reduce prices to attract fans in these difficult times. There will be no more chubby kids deals. Tell me, will ra loyil be happy paying the same price to watch second division football as Celtic fans pay to watch the SPL and of course European matches. Don’t think so.

But carry on telling us you are having a great time being run by a buffoon who has made you a bigger laughing stock than you already are and playing against part-timers every week. Sevco are winning the Third Division by a larger amount of points than Celtic are winning the top league. They play against guys who only train twice a week yet their league is supposed to be more entertaining. I think this years SPL is the highest scoring for many years. Josef Goebbels, a known Rangers fan, would have difficuly selling their ‘success’ story.

  • Willow says:

Wow, cyberted, even by the extremely low standards of your usual nonsense this is a ridiculously poor ‘article’.

Paras 1&2 – How do you know that the fans who said they’d go to the games haven’t? Anyway it was about NOt going back if the clubs voted to let a brand new club into Scotland’s top league.

Para 3 – ” Celtic … the club went bust, and were bought over by Fergus McCann”. I really hope that you are not THAT stupid that you think Celtic went bust. As you are (most likely) aware the difference between Celtic and Rangers’ situations is that Celtic paid it’s debts and didn’t even go into administration never mind get liquidated. RFC died owing tens of millions to a very wide assortment of institutions.

Para 4 – The SPL didn’t vote RFC out. RFC went bust bust and the zombie club formed by Sevco 5088 was not voted in.
Only a Rangers/The Rangers fan would describe the concept of “sporting integrity” as being discredited.

Para 5 – See my comment on para1.
Re the second sentence, care to back that claim up with some facts? As Others have said attendances are up at many clubs.

Para 6 – “Rangers demotion to the third division”. Again, as I’m sure you must be aware, TFC was not demoted. It went bust and the Scottish footballing authorities broke their own rules to let the new club in.

Para 7 – I’m sure those chairmen are no more worried than when RFC was paying players wages it couldn’t afford to win titles it wouldn’t have otherwise. Since the days of Dundee Utd and Aberdeen being the top clubs, no team outside Glasgow has had a realistic chance of being champions.

So, apart from being completely wrong about virtually everything, that was a really good article.

    Merry Christmas!
