Another game, another brace from Luis Suarez, who is currently enjoying his best form since joining the Premier League (let’s not forget his incredible scoring form in the Eredivisie). For once this season, Liverpool looked confident and assured as they romped to a 3-0 victory over a lackluster Wigan side.
They’ve had their troubles so far this season, but there were signs that things were beginning to get back on track. Indeed, with the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham struggling to find consistency, some fans may well believe that their team can make it to the top four.
If this is to be possible, however, they’ll need to ensure that Suarez doesn’t get: over-tired and over-worked, injured or distracted. The worry must surely be there that Suarez will get sucked in by the rumours concerning his future and experience a dip in form.
Whatever happens, it’s clear that Brendan Rodgers has some work to do this January. As soon as the window re-opens, Rodgers needs to pluck up a quality striker. I only hope that he’s in the process of organizing this now, so that the move can be completed as early as possible.
Liverpool are stretched to breaking point upfront and need somebody to ease the burden that is currently being placed on Luis Suarez’s shoulders. This brings me to a 23-year-old that had a trial with Liverpool FC five years ago: Wilfried Bony. He has a fun name and a lot of potential.
He’s currently the Eredivisie’s top scorer (with 14-goals already for Vitesse Arnhem this season) and this form has seen him linked to Chelsea and Liverpool (according to The Mirror).
But Chelsea already have enough starlets on their books. It’s Liverpool who have the more pressing need and who can offer the Ivorian International more opportunities for regular football. When asked about Chelsea earlier this month, he responded: “I love English football and wouldn’t be afraid to play there.”
He seemed more than happy to encourage Chelsea’s attention and would surely welcome a move to Anfield, where he would be given the time he needs to develop. He has an £8m price-tag, a figure that hopefully wont scare Rodgers away.
Liverpool have cultivated a youth culture and Bony would be a smart addition to this. Yes he’s young, but he’s already providing the goods. If Liverpool don’t snap him up, somebody else will, so let’s hope that Brendan is already making his enquiries!
What’s your take? Should Liverpool sign Wilfried Bony?
