Will Norwich City avoid ‘second season syndrome’?

Norwich City fans seem to be some of the most optimistic fans in the country at the moment, with the recent signings of midfielder Jacob Butterfield and former Rangers defender Steven Whittaker, boss Chris Hughton seems to be building a squad ready to ensure that Norwich don’t suffer from second season syndrome. In addition the club are in talks with Leeds United captain Robert Snodgrass, one of the Championship’s better players,  and Sunderland defender Michael Turner, and an experienced Premier League defender.

Norwich fans are optimistic with good reason so it seems, as Chris Hughton is a manager admired by many, most Newcastle fans still agree that he should never of been sacked in the first place(Although his replacement couldn’t have done any better). Surely Hughton will have the knowhow to keep Norwich safe once again.

I believe that the squad already is good enough to easily keep Norwich in the Premier League, goalkeeper John Ruddy having the season of his life and breaking into Roy’s Euro 2012 squad, then only to be cruelly ruled out with injury.

The defence was much stronger with the addition of Ryan Bennett in January a defender highly thought of at the time by Paul Lambert,  and Whittaker will now replace the on-loan Kyle McNaughton at Right back.  Russell Martin will compete with Turner, and Bennett for the centre back places. Marc Tierney also had a very consistent season at left back and will hope to hold down his place in the team once again.

Chris Hughton has turned to make the midfield a much more competitive place, The signing of Jacob Butterfield will put David Fox’s role under question, as the two are a very similar type of player, both like to keep the ball and play the simple pass. Robert Snodgrass will provide competition on the flanks for Pilkington and Bennett, as well as being able to cover for Howson if injuries dictate.

Up front Norwich have the excellent Grant Holt and Steve Morison, both had seasons to remember last year as they comfortably guided Norwich to Premier League safety, Both scored vital goals in games to win them points throughout the season, Chris Martin returns from loan at Crystal Palace and Simeon Jackson hopes to break into the team, however, Hughton could bring in a better back up as Jackson wasn’t prolific for Norwich.

The squad seems settled and content with the clubs new manager, captain and key player Grant Holt has signed a new contract and the fans are just living in the Premier League dream, I see a great season ahead for Norwich City Football Club, one that hopefully will settle Delia Smith’s appetite for the club!

On the ball, City!

I think your reporting is a bit late, Norwich have not only signed Robert Snodgrass but he’s already played his first game. try and keep up.

  • Sam says:

Second Season Syndrome is kinda BS. Very few clubs go down in the second year.
