He wants to play in the Premier League, so should Arsenal give him the chance?

Arsenal’s work in the transfer market doesn’t appear to be done yet. The Gunners have brought in strikers Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud to help deal with the potential absence of Robin Van Persie. But Arsene Wenger is still looking to make moves and build a strong squad for next season.

This has seen Arsenal linked strongly to Real Madrid’s Nuri Sahin and Malaga’s Santi Cazorla. (Source: The Guardian).

This La Liga duo would add plenty of firepower to Arsenal’s midfield and between them may be able to fill the creative deficit left by Cesc Fabregas. They’re both remarkably talented and just the kind of players that Arsenal fans will want to see their club chasing.

But the rumour mill continues to spin and the Gunners continue to get linked to players. The latest of which, according to London24, is Marseilles’ Andre Ayew. He’s the son of FIFA 100 member Abedi Pele, and is already fairly highly thought of in Ligue 1, despite being just 22-years-old. He’s also impressed playing for his national side, Ghana, where he’s picked up 40 caps. But it looks like he may be willing to consider a change of scenery:

“I am looking forward to pre-season and seeing what will happen regarding my future,” said Ayew. Marseille is my home and I’m happy to be here. But if I have to leave to improve and the club get what they are looking for, who knows? Premier League, Spanish Liga or Serie A are all top leagues and to play there is to play against the best in Europe.”

So should Arsenal look to bring him over to the Premier League?

Arsene Wenger knows French football like the back of his hand. There’s probably a file with Ayew’s name on it somewhere at Arsenal HQ. Whether he believes he has the potential to make it at the Emirates is another matter entirely. Despite being named African Footballer of the Year 2011, he’s certainly got some way to go before he emulates his father.

Arsene Wenger may also be wary of losing another player to the African Cup of Nations this season and that may stop him making a move. Besides, he’s a winger and Arsenal seem pretty set in this position (particularly if Santi Cazorla does seal a move to North London).

Whilst he’s a handy player, I just don’t think he’s the kind of player Arsenal need.

What’s your take? Would Ayew be a good addition at the Emirates?
