More talented than Lukaku: Should Arsenal snap up this £11.3m rated Belgian youngster?

After what felt like weeks of waiting for confirmation, Arsenal fans finally received assurance on Tuesday that they’d signed Malaga winger Santi Cazorla. Naturally, fans were overjoyed and they’ve been riding waves of satisfaction ever since. Finally, their club is showing ambition and aside from Chelsea, they look the Premier League side most prepared for the coming season. Whether or not things pan out for them remains to be seen. Likewise, it’s unclear whether the Gunners will seek to add further additions to their squad. I’m sure Arsenal fans will be hoping that they do.

Given the general sense of Euphoria surrounding the club, I hope I can be excused for reading the headline, ‘Arsenal in the running for Suarez’ and thinking that the world has gone mad. Could Arsene Wenger really be after Liverpool’s troublesome but talented forward Luis Suarez? No, he’s not, as it turned out (and indeed, the Uruguayan recently signed a new contract with the Reds).

The actual man Wenger’s said to be after (according to TalkSPORT) is Anderlecht forward Matias Suarez. Well, there’s no doubting that he’s a talent too. But would he be a good addition?

Let’s jump straight to the key talking point: Suarez was set to join CSKA Moscow in a £11.3m deal, only for the Russians to pull out when the Belgian failed a medical. Alarm bells should immediately be ringing. If CSKA weren’t interested (but were willing to spend that much money originally) the extent of the injury must be pretty bad. It’d certainly be a risk for a club like Arsenal to sign him.

Still, there’s no doubting his talent. The 24-year-old played a key-role in Anderlecht’s (a real hot-bed of talent) title winning side last season. He scored 12 goals and collected the Belgian Player of the Year Award. What’s more, Herman Van Holsbeeck, Anderlecht’s general manager has previously claimed, Everyone in the transfer market agrees that Suarez has more talent that [Romelu] Lukaku. Given Lukaku’s worth and ability, that’s no small praise.

He’ll secure a move soon enough, but this injury looks to be a major roadblock in his career. I would suggest that Arsenal offer him a way out, but it’s my feeling that the Gunners already have enough crocks on board their squad. At the moment they simply can’t afford the risk.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal gamble on Matias Suarez?

i think we have de moni to buy anybody in de world, but we have to be careful de way we spend it, we are good to go.

  • emeka says:

i remain a gunner for live.

  • majok mariano says:

i think defender would be better coz that is our area of weakness so far….

  • Patrick Ataman says:

Honestly, if we can afford it, we should buy him. I know he will recover and be a great asset for us. I only hope he will not dump us for funny ambition and repay us with ingratitude as they generally do.

  • Emmanuel says:

We need some one in the defence. If you take a look @ our last season, most of our down minute draws and loses were because of d shaky defence. So ones we get some one there, we are set for new season

  • shabby says:

Haven’t ya’al seen Kevin mirallas he is a monster get him. He plays for olympiacos some greek league team and believe me if arsenal gets him then you don’t need RVP anymore.

  • danny says:

Reason they pulled out is because they need a strikers immediatly. Don’t know about him to say anything more

  • Abz says:

Its already said. Too much of a risk despite his talent but if we were linked to another striker strongly then I’d say we go for Kevin Mirallas. But strikers aren’t needed anymore and AW knows that. He’s probably looking to offload some players now and look for a backup centre back rather than a first team centre back. Squilacci could be going to Olympiakos soon as talks are taking place with him and the club. Carlos Vela has just been sold to Real Sociedad and Park Chu Young could be sold soon aswell depending on other clubs interest. Surely some club would give interest as he’s just shown a bit of goal scorer he is at the Olympics when Korea played Japan. On that note congratulations to Japan for getting the bronze medal.

  • Oguntimilehin seun says:

Up gunners, i think we shld be more concern about our defense now.

  • Yeah we really need an outstanding deputy right back for Sagna and a first class holding midfielder…. I suggest we go for Nigel De Jong or Allou Diara for the the holding midfield role and Gregory van da wil of Ajax for the right back role….
