All Tottenham fans want their team to achieve lasting success. They’ve got the taste for it now, but after falling just outside of a Champions League place last season, they’ll want more. Andre Villas-Boas will surely look to finish in the top four next season and may face stern examinations if he doesn’t. But with clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea making smart additions this summer and Manchester City and United as strong as ever, the challenge is tougher than ever. So, just how are Tottenham supposed to build towards this much coveted success?

Finding a striker who can deliver 20-30 goals next season would be a good start. Spurs lacking a reliable forward last season and often had to rely on their midfield for goals. But just who can AVB look to bring in? The man I’d most like to see in Tottenham shirt before the window slams shut is Brazilian ace Leandro Damiao.

According to Goal.com, Spurs are ready to step up their interest in the 23-year-old and launch a £15m bid for the Internacional forward. He’s currently in England playing for the Brazilian national team at the Olympics, and it could be the perfect time to meet with representatives from Tottenham.

Damiao’s had an excellent tournament. At the time of writing, (Wednesday morning) he’s currently the top scorer with six goals, including two fine second-half efforts against South Korea in the semi-final. Indeed, he seems to get goals wherever he is. Last year saw him nab 20 goals in 29 appearances (a fantastic conversion rate) and the season prior he scored 38 goals in 51 appearances. It’s fair to say that he doesn’t lack confidence in front of goal.

The 23-year-old is fleet-footed, pacy and he clearly knows where the net is. The youngster is one of world football’s most lauded talented and it’s somewhat pleasing to see Spurs linked to players of this calibre. There’s no doubting that he could add something to this Tottenham side. I certainly think he’s capable of scoring 20+ goals per season. Indeed, he may be ready to really set the Premier League alight.

As there’s still confusion surrounding Emmanuel Adebayor’s future at the club, it’s about time that the club weighed up their options. And there are few better options out there than Leandro Damiao.

What’s your take? Would the young Brazilian make for a good addition at White Hart Lane?

Just heard that Spurs have been told to pay 47million pounds if they want to sign him.

  • Paul1 says:

Its just never gonna happen. they want 47 mill and we want to pay 15!!!!!! Negotiate that Levy!

  • keith says:

£47 million hahahaha – but an easy solution to that problem is sell Modders for £50 million – job done.
Now back to reality when did this buyout clause appear in his contract yesterday?

  • Richard says:

Been a fan for over 30 years and still waiting for the day that we spend some real money. Were never gonna get World Class players if we only spend peanuts. Levy needs to get in the real world and catch up with everyone else. Even if Damio was desperate to come to us it will never happen as Levy is happy to try and sell our players for stupid money but then expects to get players in return for next to nothing. Wake up Levy or soon we’ll be singing the same tune as the rest of the bottom half of the league

I have followed Spurs since 1967 and back in those days it used to be Spurs that were breaking transfer records. These days it seems to be like you say, sell our players for top money then want to bring in new faces at bargain basement prices. I for one think the addition of Daimio and one other top striker would give us a chance of winning the league, not just top 4. Time to spend Daniel Levy

  • Bob Skelton says:

Yes- I see that Spurs are being told that it would
take £47 million to even open a discussion for this
guy’s transfer. Should have bought him long ago but then Levy is so tight with the purse strings. Spurs club is always a business first and a football club second. AVB is going to sink without a trace with just Defoe up front and possibly that mercenary Adebayor. Moutinho and Damio are names bandied about to keep Spurs fans happy. Same old Spurs.
What has happened to the money received for Pavo and others sold off this season? Not a chance of the top four without a new keeper, midfielder and at least one decent striker!! Hope I have to eat my words.

  • John Hutton says:

I’m shocked. We are a week away from the new season and we don’t have the resorces in place for AVB to have any chance of success. Its complete and utter mis management.

  • jeff10 says:

TIME IS RUNNING OUT. WE NEED AT LEAST ONE WORLD CLASS STRIKER AND A WORLD CLASS GOALKEEPER. IF THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN VERY SOON WE WILL NOT GET ANYWHERE THIS SEASON.SPEND NOW AND LET’S HAVE A GREAT SEASON,AND A GREAT FUTURE.
