Would this be £5m well spent by Arsenal?

I think it’s widely regarded amongst Arsenal fans that there’s still plenty of work to be done during this summer’s transfer market. The uncertainty over Robin Van Persie’s future probably necessitates the signing of another striker (despite the additions of both Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud). The insecurity rife within Arsenal’s midfield also demands attention. At the moment there are just too many question marks over too many players.

Tomas Rosicky is a constant injury worry. Jack Wilshere may not be back from his long-term injury layoff until part of the way through the season. Aaron Ramsey can’t seem to find his goal scoring form (and more or less always looks a deer in the headlights with the goal beckoning in front of him). Denilson has secured another twelve month loan with Sao Paulo. We may never see Diaby complete a full game of football again.

Beyond Alex Song and Mikel Arteta, there’s very little security in the centre of the park. That’s why Arsenal have been heavily linked to players like Rennes’ Yann M’Vila.

Which brings me to The Sun’s claim that Arsenal are ‘scrabbling’ after Blackburn’s Steven Nzonzi. The French midfielder, who doesn’t have a good relationship with Rovers boss Steve Kean failed to turn up to Blackburn’s training camp in Austria and this has triggered rumours that he’s on the way out.

He’s MIA and he’s been given an Arsene Wenger baiting £5m price-tag. Plus he’s French and he’s got the majority of his career ahead of him. He sounds like a quintessential Arsenal signing, but would he be the right man for the job?

He joined Blackburn back in 2009 and has thus far made 86 appearances for the Lancashire side. Arsenal fans may remember him best for the two-footed challenge he put in on Laurent Koscielny back in April 2011 (for which he was sent off).

He was announced Blackburn Rover’s Player of the Year back in 09/10, but failed to prevent his side slipping down into the Championship last season. Without wanting to be snobbish, I don’t think he could add much to this Arsenal side. Is he really any better than Aaron Ramsey? I don’t think so and if he isn’t, there’s no point buying him.

The real Rovers’ prize is Junior Hoillet. Nzonzi is a good player, but not good enough for an Arsenal side looking to win silverware.

What a load of Nzonzence! (Sorry).

Talented as he may be, Francis Coquelin is a much better player not only does he have a higher pass completion rate he’s also a better tackler..which pretty much nullifies your argument. Arsenal have the best midfield in the epl, your inability to see it screams IGNORANCE…don’t beleive me just do your research and compare statistics SIMPLE

Arsenal should be looking for the signature of Hoilett instead as he is much more of a game changer and with him on the left wing and Walcott on the right, it will be a pacey attack. Nzonzi was great for Blackburn last season but I feel he dosen’t have enough quality to be playing for a top club.
