The controversial web site DeathList 2012 is up and running. For those who have never heard of it, DeathList it is a rather macabre list drawn up to comprise the celebrities thought, in the opinion of the DeathList committee, most likely to die during 2012. The basic rules are that candidates must be famous in their own right, such that their death is expected to be reported by the UK media. The 2012 list contains such famous people as Great Train Robber Ronnie Biggs (83), actor Kirk Douglas, (96) and actress Zsa Zsa Gabor (95); all very much alive.

Perhaps the DeathList committee has something in common with Scottish football. Scottish football is also run by committee, and the talk amongst the committee members must surely be which club will be next to go into dark? The only thing truly constant, it’s said, is change.

It would appear St Mirren are the early favourite, with reports that they are approximately 300 season tickets down on last year’s sales. In the last week, around 15 have been sold, only five to new season ticket holders. The official figures say there is a massive shortfall of around £90,000.

A quick look at the books of most of the other clubs would also make painful reading. What of these other clubs? If Rangers are not too big to fail, Motherwell has been in administration before; Aberdeen seems to have more lives than a cat after finishing bottom of the league twice and failing to be relegated.

Dundee, fighting against Dunfermline to take Rangers place, has also been in administration on a couple of occasions. Dunfermline are operating almost on a part-time basis after relegation last season and paying off half their players in preparation for life in the lower division.

Hibernian have a brand new stand that some of the seats still have the protective wrapper on, having never been used. Kilmarnock are begging Celtic fans not to boycott them after Chairman Michael Johnston did the right thing and abstained  on the vote to boot Rangers out of the SPL.

Where is the integrity of directors who vote for something that they know in the long road will damage their company. This is clearly stupid and possibly illegal under corporate law.

Don’t right off Hearts, huge debts and three winding up orders from HMRC may have the Edinburgh team at the head of the cortege procession. Dundee United appears to be where the smart money is being placed.  If rumours are true it would appear the Arabs have built their house on shifting sands.

I would gamble that Ronnie Biggs, Kirk Douglas and Zsa Zsa Gabor might have better odds of seeing out 2012 than some of these clubs…!
