Are Manchester United really in the running for this La Liga superstar?

Who are the world’s top strikers right now? Robin Van Persie, Mario Gomez, Hulk, Wayne Rooney, Karim Benzema and a few others. Does Radamel Falcao belong on this list? I’d say so.

It’s not all that surprising then that he’s ended up being linked to Manchester United (he’s certainly been linked to a good number of sides since his move to Atletico Madrid), Generaccion (via Bleacher Report), a Spanish paper, claims that Sir Alex Ferguson is an admirer of the goal-hungry Colombian and has spent the summer weighing up a potential move.

It also goes as far as to claim that Atletico may be willing to part with the main goal threat, if the price is right.

El Tigre is now 26-years-old and looks to be entering the peak stages of his career. What a great time to go in for his signature! The man truly is an incredible player. In three seasons playing for European clubs he has scored more than 100 goals. He is the first player in history to win consecutive European titles with two different teams whilst being the top scorer for both. Last season he scored 36 goals in all competitions and grabbed two goals in the Europa League final.

The list of plaudits truly could go on and on. He’s so confident going forward and he’s great at plucking the ball out of the air. It’s difficult to find any real faults.

Manchester United have plenty going forward. But Sir Alex Ferguson has never been shy of making a signing if he thinks it’ll improve the side. I’m not sure if there’s any truth to these rumours, but it’s an incredibly exciting prospect. Can you image Falcao playing alongside Wayne Rooney next season? Even moneybags Manchester City would have to be a little worried should that be the case.

Falcao has never spoken out about his future. He seems happy at Atletico. But a player like this rarely spends their whole career at a team with no real chance of winning major honours. When he finally does decide that the time’s right for him to seek out a move, I hope Manchester United compete for his signature.

It may not happen this summer, but should it happen sometime in the future, I’d be ecstatic.

What’s your take? Is Falcao moving to Old Trafford little more than a far away dream?
