The smartest £18m transfer investment Liverpool could make:

Prior to his season ending injury, Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva was looking like one of world football’s best defensive midfielders. Not only was his reading of the game great, but he could also pick out a pass and join in with attacks where necessary. He’s about as versatile as defensive midfielders come. But there’s no saying how long he’ll take to fully recover from his injury. Or indeed, (God forbid) whether he’ll ever be as good as he was before his injury.

It makes sense then that Liverpool should look to bring in a defensive midfielder to provide a little competition. Whilst we all want to see Lucas reclaim his spot in the squad, you can hardly blame Brendan Rodgers for wanting to cover all angles.

Yes Liverpool’s midfield is starting to look a little packed, but this is still an area that the club needs to consider throughout the summer. Which brings me to a story that I found on Liverpool-Kop.com. They provide quotes from perennial Liverpool transfer target Moussa Sissoko that suggests the Toulouse midfielder is ready to move on. Speaking to La Depeche, he provided details of his gentleman’s agreement with Touolouse President Olivier Sadran:

“The President is a man of his word – we met at the end of the league season, and we came to an agreement: He said that I could leave if an offer came in that satisfied all parties. It’s no secret that I have a desire to test myself in other leagues, especially the Premier League, which I think suits my style of play.”

He’s been linked to Liverpool before (Source: Daily Mail) and now that Toulouse are ready to sell, Brendan Rodgers may reignite his interest. This source suggests that he’s worth £18m. Liverpool-Kop.com suggest he’s worth £17m. Whether either are true remains to be seen. His contract expires in a year’s time and Toulouse may be prepared to accept lower bids.

Speculation aside, I can’t help but feel like the time’s right for the Reds to move for Sissoko. They need to provide Lucas with some competition and at 22-years-old, the Frenchman has the potential to really kick on and establish himself. He’s a powerful presence in the centre of the park and has got an unstoppable engine. That sounds perfect to me.

What’s your take? Would Sissoko be a sensible addition for Liverpool?

Unfortunately ‘Liverpool Kop’ is a Pseudo LFC Web-site run by a very clever Pseudo LFC Fan

Can’t put it any better Lar. Thought I was the only one who noticed that.

He’s more of a manipulator than very clever. Far too many spelling and grammatical errors to be very clever.
Also far too much devils advocate.
He probably sounds like Andy Gray would if he started supporting The Pool lol.

      • Lfc4lifer says:

He’s not a liverpool fan thats for sure…
I’m banned from that site after asking him why on his FB page he was referring to Rafa as fat waiter and acting like a anti-LFC supporter, ,along with the other mancs on his FB page.

He’s a troll and a successful one at that. He set up the whole site to get hits with controversial stories putting our club down, sympathising with H&G knowing that it would annoy us.
Notice when we are doing well, He has nothing to report, goes quiet and then re-appears when things are looking dodgy citing he had personal issues as an excuse for his silence in the good times.

He’s a poor excuse of man/woman but great business man.

        Jamie Kanwar is scum!

lol been boycotting that shite for ages as have others. It’s also known as “Liverpool Krap”

  • Red John says:

Very expensive for someone in the final year of their contract, but we’re in dire need of another holding midfielder, our season collapsed last year when Lucas was injured (plus other factors).

At 22 his age is ideal too, but I can’t help thinking that if he’s see’s this as his big move to the EPL (which it is I guess), coupled with the size of the transfer fee, that he’ll be expecting a wage that FSG might not be willing to meet.

After all, they were willing to let the Gylfi deal pass and he was due to be in the starting XI and wasn’t even after that much money!

However, Rodgers has taken big earners like Kuyt, Aurellio and Maxi off the wage bill, with maybe Doni, Bellamy, Cole and Aquilani yet to follow.

    • pugblue says:

I think you have a fair point about the wages,

I also think FSG where very intelligent with not signing Gylfi whilst citing money, I also think it’s clever that LFC have not going into transfer for Dempsey. We truly got stung on transfers last year. More prudence is welcome

A holding mid is critical but not sure 18 million needs to be to be spent

  • khan says:

hes not a def midfielder at all !!!

  • Terry says:

I smell a football manager player who thinks the game is as easy as real life

  • Bif says:

Liverpool-Kop is a dumb Scotch pseudo git, he’s not smart he knows nothing and usually grabs any story that has just come out and reconfigures it with a question mark on the end.

One of his most used is “confirmed” means he just read a web article that he can misconstrue for a good headline.

Your site is not looking good tying you wagon to his horses:(

    • Gaz says:

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like the guy and have constantly let him know how hypocritical he is, among other things, but his name is Jamie Kanwar, that sounds more Indian than Scottish. And to the writer of this article goes, this is bad journalism. Liverpool may have been interested in the past, but when you say that Rodgers is set to reignite his interest, there is no evidence to say he was interested in the first place. And at 18m, that is a very expensive bench-warmer, yes we need to add depth to the squad, but maybe time to give our youngsters the chance they deserve

  • KSI. says:

wouldn’t pay 15 million for Allen now he’s injured LOL t(-.-t)

  • m kop says:

Little expensive don’t you think ?
I think Allen will be only central midfielder Liverpool will sing, if anyone.

They are in need of pace not more cm’s.

  • BaldyRed says:

It’s amazing how much better players become when they don’t play. Lucas is at best average. The same thing happened when Gareth Barry was injured, suddenly he became England’s best player and the missing link. Lucas has no pace, can’t tackle, gives the ball away on a regular basis, doesn’t score and doesn’t create, apart from that he is world class!

  • @mickmacklfc says:

Don’t believe anything off Jamie Kanwar’s site, he’s a sad little man with too much time on his hands, probably cos he’s got no mates. He’s absolutely full of shit
