Why Celtic should leave Rangers’ fans to fight their own battle:

In a book written by the journalist Graham Spiers, about former Lyon coach Paul Le Guen’s time as manager of Rangers, Spiers stated that PLG as a manager was more suited to Celtic than Rangers. Spiers, no lover of the club, was trying to make the point that somebody with PLG’s football philosophy would be better suited to the Celtic style of playing, rather than the so-called huff and puff style of football that Rangers seem to play. This of course does not stand up to scrutiny. It is a myth. Rangers have produced as many, if not more, sublime footballers than Celtic. Players such as Jim Baxter, Davie Cooper, Alex MacDonald and George Young…the list goes on.

As Rangers supporters, the position we find ourselves in is an uncomfortable one. Having to take to the streets and voice our protest has never been something that the average Rangers supporter thought that they would ever have to do. The sight of tens of thousands of Rangers supporters marching through the streets of Glasgow somehow seemed surreal. The long lines of protesters slowly snaking their way through the streets, banners held aloft the colours, rallying calls through the megaphone all gave the picture of unity, a fight worth fighting. A quick glance and you would be forgiven for thinking that it was a union march protesting about the government or job losses.

There has been heavy criticism of the march and much has been made of it by the Celtic support, yet you get the feeling that in some sections of the Celtic support there are elements of jealousy creeping in. Graham Spiers seemed to imply that football styles were set in stone and that clubs could be categorised as such – so it’s interesting that the position that Rangers find themselves in now is a scenario that was made for the Celtic support, always playing the victims. We might expect this type of protest from the Celtic support, rather than Rangers. They like to portray themselves as the fans that resist authority, with their banners of Che Guevara, singing their “political” songs. You get the feeling that sections of the Celtic support are looking on with envy as Rangers get all the headlines with the protest march, the boycotts and lobbying members of the Scottish Parliament in this, the first title winning season in four years for Celtic.

However no matter what Spiers or the Celtic support thinks, or how envious they are, it must be remembered that this is Ranger’s battle and only Rangers themselves can fight and win it. Outside of Ibrox, the fans have never been the most vocal  – yes, it’s easy to blame Sir David Murray for his silence, but the support must share some of this blame for being weak and not standing up to the former chairman.  The goal for Rangers and their supporters must be to never fall asleep on the job again. The club’s reputation and history must be defended from those who seek to harm it. This is a wakeup call that has been answered by the support and to those who took to the streets. I would like to think that this generation of supporters took Rangers some way along the road towards this goal. It’s a goal worth fighting for. It is a fight worth fighting.

As a celtic fan, I totally agree with your comments. I am indeed overcome with jealousy and envy at the plight Rangers FC (in administration) find themselves in. I really wish it was Celtic who were on the brink of liquidation!! :-S

  • Paul says:

You are going to die. No amount of daft marches, threats, bluster and denial is going to change that. Wake up to the fact that no supporters in Scottish football want you and remember to drop off all the tainted titles on the way to the morgue.

Rangers have been in existence 140 years and you can only list 4 skillful players, 2 of which couldn’t trap a bag of cement ….Celtic fans are not looking on with envy but sheer unadulterated joy, watching Rangers crumble day after day has been an absolute pleasure, similiar to waking up with the lead singer of the Bangles every morning.

Castigating David Murray as the villain when you and the rest of your hordes loved his rhetoric and hubris during his tenure, he embodied ‘we are the establishment’ and that is why your fall has been from a great height and so many people are taking enjoyment in the slow death of your club.

Graham Spiers is an award winning sports journalist of which very few in Scotland exist these days, his words carry weight and although he may be damning of your club its because he has the courage to write the truth and not be part of the Ibrox love-in favoured by the other lazy fawning hacks.

You and your fellow huns are finding your voice, well done mate…your club is going down the Swann y and a few protests and marches will galvanise the bears, cant think of any other club who would do that…guess its what makes RFC a truly unique institution, you may love your club but you’re are universally despised and when you are dead and buried, no one will care no one will remember and Scotland will be a better cleaner place, travel well RFC.

when are you people going to realise this is a situation that was spawned by your fellow rangers supporters, sdm and all.Financial mismanagement and malpractice was the way of your club and had nothing to do with celtic or any other club. You continually look around for some other group to blame while the real malcontents are so far being pretty much ignored.A little humility from you might be good advice as you sound like a spoiled kid who thinks that only he is right and to hell with the rules of society. We have long memories and the awful abuse heaped on us when we had to get kelly and white out the door is conveniently forgotten,so you can suffer as we did and take your medicine like a man.

Think you’ve commented on the wrong article, or, having read what I have read, you clearly did not understand it.

The article is a comparison (and perhaps a back-handed compliment) of how Celtic fans would be expected to rebel against their board (and club) under the same circumstances, maybe not even allowing the situation that Rangers Football Club, and its support, now finds itself in to have arisen in the first place. Yet most bears did nothing.

  • Raymy says:

I’m not sure you really know the meaning of envy If you think Celtic fans have it in any regard with anything happening down the southside.

On the issue of protesting, a previous effort resulted in a further £18m getting fleeced from future creditors following the Kaunas affair.

Still, rather than be empowered by jealousy, the so called victims, as you put it, staged their own protest a number of years ago, and subsequently ousted a corrupt regime that was running the club into the ground. You could have done the same.
We got our house in order. Rangers didn’t. They continued to take on unserviceable debt and are near unsaveable. Beds have been made but It’s a very uncomfortable lie for some.

  • john says:

    Well done Cyber ted!
This gave me a huge laugh! ‘Tens of thousands’-5,000 max. And this ‘mob’, only in attendance because they had a free saturday from playing flutes and banging lambegs, are marching to complain about getting caught cheating. Idiocy like this explains why Rangers are at their lowest point ever (and by God this lot have had some lows) . The supporters of all Scottish clubs and none are universal in their condemnation of Rangers financial doping and lying and are shocked by the audacity ‘ra peepil’ have in complaining about the leniency they have been shown. Your sense of entitlement is staggering.
Be assured of two things. No Celtic supporter ever looks at a group of Rangers supporters and says ‘I wish I was one of them’. Jesus! And Rangers are finished. They may be in the SPL next season, they may escape further and adequate punishment but they will never be considered as a sports team by anyone ever again. Every victory will be questioned.
If Rangers can ‘convince’ the other Scottish clubs that sporting integrity can be bought every time they win a game people will be questioning how they won. Have they bribed the ref? Have they paid the opposition?
Guys like Johnstone should be aware, once a whore always a whore. Sell yourself once, and you will be willing to do it again.
Rangers are the club who cheated and got away relatively scot free. But it will always be remembered.
Never to be trusted again. The game is dead.

    • peter m m says:

You have to be joking talking about low points surely, have you seen you’re clubs history you support every terrorist organization that is against Britain no matter how many innocent people they slaughter cause yees think oooo were against the brits even though you are brits, allegedly, and don’t start me on low low low point in child abuse, so before you start criticizing other clubs for money problems take a long hard think, if it’s possible

      • jocky bhoy says:

My God. Is it impossible for Rangers fans to stick to football matters? You cheated your suppliers and the taxman to get advantage on the pitch. You got busted. You’re bust.

The only thing missing for peter mm’s pathetic little smear rant is a reference to Catholic schools.

I live in London and people’s abiding memory of Rangers/Celtic down here in recent years is of Rangers fans attacking police and dismantling Manchester brick by brick in the UEFA final. Jeez, there was a whole Crimewatch devoted to it!

Circa 2008 The Daily Heil (sorry Mail) started a campaign to impose the poppy emblem onto EPL football shirts and very successful they were too. Scotland embraced it earlier than the English with the SPL forcing all clubs to put poppies on shirts.

I don’t know about Scotland but “poppy facism” is suffering a backlash down here.

      • Steggs says:

Ha ha just the usual Hun , if you are on the wrong end of an argument you play the child abuse card .you are a disgusting lot who deserve everything that is coming at you .ps just heard bill miller saw what he was trying too buy and ran for the hills . Die quietly please !

  • MaxX says:

Maybe Speires was refering to the fact that PLG was the bare (bones) first and only Catholic manager, and just maybe that’s why he ‘didn’t fit in’ at ayebrokes, or what we all ready know, the up to their knees mob, led by bawwy ferguson weren’t going to take orders from, what I believe they call on follow follow, a ‘taig’.
But I agree with you, let’s let the bare to the bone brigade cheat ever team in Scotland out of tens of millions of pounds in competition money they stole, plus many more in Europe, let them thieve players from Scottish and European teams with absolutely no intention of paying for them, like the thieving cheats that they are. let’s let them theive from sick childeren, schools, the ambulance services, nurses, the police force, decent roads, public services, housing, old age pensioners, all our pensions for the furure for that matter……how many lives of the sick and British servicemen fighting abroad has the bares thieving cost??!!
(when I say ‘Brirish servicemen’ I’m not refering to ‘the army and the navy and the UVF as we hear from ayebrokes every home game and every ground they visit in Europe!!!)
Let them do all this, and more, and let them continue to lie, thieve and cheat defiantly in full view of the world, then let them decide what punishment they deserve, if any, and when they would like to serve that punishment, let them keep every penny they’ve thieved from just about everyone and ever trophy they’ve cheated and thieved from the rest of Eurupean football.
At least then the world will be aware of just what a sleezy thieving corrupt bigoted cheating immoral scumbag society Scotland really is.
My guess is that they’ve worked that out by now, and that every club across Europe that they’ve cheated across the years are doing as Celtic are doing, keeping their powder dry untill the legal process is over, then dragging your slimeball club further through the gutter for ever penny they’ve been cheated out off for decades.

Btw, your attitude that the bares cheating sick children, hospitals, ambulance services, schools and the armed forces out of over a HUNDRED MILLION PONDS in much needed funding and getting away with it is some kind of victory, really sums your lot up and shows the world just what a shower of lowlife thieving scumbags you really are.

I think you’ll find that after the details of the EBT tax dodging thieving cheating scheme is fully exposed, every team that rangers have played for the past 20yrs will infact be proven to have been ‘cheated and never defeated’ by bigotry fc (IA) and a 3-0 victory awarded to them!

You must have rocked in the school debating society!! LOL!

Football supporter to Thieves fc supporter; Looks like your club are having financial problems?

Tfcs; Aye! Yer a c*nt and you make me sick!

Fs; OK then, I guess asking you how you feel about your club thieving money from OAPs, the sick and dying and robbing the armed forces out of much needed and life saving equipment is pointless?

Tfcs; Yer awe taig pape paddy c*nts. UVF, FTP, WATP, No surrender!

No wonder you are in the state you are in.
Hell mend you, as I’m sure God gave up on you a long time ago.

Along with the rankers, the msm , spl , sfa have all equally had a hand in the death of scottish football in 2012 if a newco is voted to stay in the top flight , they are all equally to blame for the situation in which scottish football finds itself in , this whole situation was bein tlked about for up to a year by internet “bumpots” before it became “common knowledge” , the press denied it right untill admin hit , their supporters said no bc they thought they were da peepul , the spl and sfa said and done not a thing about it untill the shit hit the fan and they followed suit and blamed all on craig whyte , there are people high up in organisations in scottish football who had a hand in puttin rangers in this situation and helped them dodge a decades of tax and are not asked to step aside from their positions for an investigation , and then you have the rankers telling the spl and sfa when they can hold votes to rig them ( ie relegated teams who would vote against newco) , the sfa still have no answered how they let the who ” double contract” go on for so long , when they would and should have known something was up when the contracts submitted to the sfa would of had a far less wage on them than playeers of around the same price range as celtic player contracts handed in? Ohhhh jorge cadete (remember) , this is one of the biggest sporting scandals ever in history , and when the rest of facts become public klnowlwdge via internet , news or even a book , yes a book will be written as discussed on rangerstaxcase.com , the ppl in power of scottish football , one club and the press all stand accused of the offical death of scottish football

  • celtdavy says:

Sorry Ted I can’t for the life of me think why any non Rangers football supporter would be envious at this particular time of your club. Especially as there is a very serious threat to your club losing it’s history and existence as we know it just now. And you may also possibly lose some of your previously celebrated (Tainted)titles if you are found guilty of the big tax case which would mean you cheated and this is the Team and Supporters that took the moral high ground when Marseille were caught cheating in 1993 when you think you were cheated of your chance to play in the big cup final wouldn’t it be ironic if you were cheating at the same time to even qualify for that competition. As far as boycotts are concerned you can only boycott something if you have the right to be in it and if your company doesn’t pay her Majesties government there taxes then like any other company/Club you will not survive I will end this note with, I am sure a phrase you will agree with the first part of God Save the Queen not the Team

  • jocky bhoy says:

We don’t need to be jealous – Celtic had their own near death experience and it was fan power and a wee fella in a bunnet that sorted it out. Nae bother.

That was at a time before the internet & blogs & social networking made it possible to disseminate news outside the mainstream media’s grip. It was the Celtic fanbase and a few individuals that saved the club, albeit on deadline.

Rangers have no such saviours. Or such fans.

For years the Celtic blogs have been questioning Rangers finances. Ex-Rangers director Hugh Adam warned of Rangers debts 10 years ago! And yet rather than sort the problem Rangers fans, aided and abetted by the “succulent lamb” and “finest red” fuelled media, turned on those questioning “Scotland’s second biggest institution” and accusing them of being anti-Rangers. Of scaremongering. Of jealousy.

Aye perhaps we were jealous of the trophies you “took” in our tougher times, certainly a lot of Celtic fans thought we should get into unsustainable debt to grab a trophy, to risk the death of our club for some short term glory? No. We did not.

Good luck making it through the off season. Bought your season books for 2012/2013 yet? No refunds btw…
