According to reports from The Express this afternoon, Sevilla have dismissed rumours that they’re in talks to sign Manchester United outcast Victor Valdes.
The former Barcelona No.1 joined the Old Trafford ranks as a free agent in January 2015 and made two Premier League appearances for the Red Devils at the end of last season.
But manager Louis van Gaal surprisingly revealed in July that the 2010 World Cup winner had been placed on the transfer list after refusing to represent United’s U21 squad.
He came close to joining Besiktas in the final week of the summer transfer window but the deal collapsed at the last minute. The Spain international is now being made to train on his own at Carrington.
Liverpool and Chelsea have both been linked with the 33 year-old in recent weeks. But upon news that United will only cancel Valdes’ contract if he agrees to leave the Premier League, reports emerged yesterday of Sevilla entering negotiations with the Red Devils over a free transfer.
According to The Express, however, the Europa League champions have now dismissed such a scenario. Citing quotes from Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo, they report club president Pepe Castro as saying; “Valdes is not an option for us. We have no intentions to sign a goalkeeper.
“We already have three or four players for that position and Sergio Rico is the one closest to fill it for many years. If we have good goalkeepers at home, we are not going to go find another one somewhere else.”
