Throughout their illustrious history, Liverpool have always boasted one of the best academy systems in England, with its alumni including the likes of Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler and Jamie Carragher to name just a few who went on to international fame.
Likewise, the Reds have proved themselves masterful in cherry-picking young talents from across the continent and turning them into world stars; Xabi Alonso, Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho being some more recent examples.
Unfortunately, however, not every prodigious youngster to have graced the Anfield pitch has proved so successful – in fact, quite the opposite. They say you can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs and the Merseysiders have smashed hundreds whilst deconstructing and rebuilding their several trophy-winning sides over the years.
