According to reports from Sky Sports News, Borussia Dortmund star Mats Hummels has Manchester United firmly in his transfer thoughts ahead of the summer window – in a bitter blow to rival suitors Chelsea.
The German international, who lifted the 2014 World Cup last summer, has been relentlessly linked with an Old Trafford switch over the last few years and now looks almost certain to leave Westfalen following a campaign in which the Black-Yellows have found themselves flirting with relegation.
But Chelsea are also known suitors of the 25 year-old, as reported by The Express last week, viewing him as an upgrade on Gary Cahill who could eventually take leadership duties from the ageing John Terry.
Sky Sports News quotes Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp, however, who has revealed Hummels is considering a move to Old Trafford this summer – without even mentioning the potential for a west London switch.
“He’s good enough for Manchester United. He’s told me he’s thinking things over,” Klopp told DW Sport.
“We’re always looking around the market ourselves. That we want to keep Mats is beyond question. How that works out I don’t know. There’s always a list of players who would be interesting in the event that you need them,” he added.
That could force Chelsea to seek alternatives instead. On Monday, for example, they were linked with Atletico Madrid star Miranda – as reported by us at This Is Futbol.
