Newcastle United are reportedly one of the clubs interested in potentially signing Mason Mount during the upcoming summer transfer window.
As things stand, the midfielder’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2024, although talks to renew his deal at Chelsea have reportedly hit a bump.
This has now led to interest rising in the player, with Eddie Howe’s side said to be one of the clubs keeping an eye on the situation.
According to a recent report from Football Insider, Newcastle are one of the sides, alongside the likes of Liverpool and the two Manchester clubs, keeping tabs on Mount’s situation at Stamford Bridge and could launch a summer transfer move for him should he decide to not sign a new deal in west London.
The report read: “Liverpool are in pole position to sign Mount, while Man United are also interested in his services.
“Newcastle are also understood to be admirers, while Man City could consider a move – and Juventus are among the foreign sides monitoring the situation.
“Sources have suggested a fee of between £60-70m could well be enough to prise him away from Stamford Bridge.”
With 192 appearances to his name for the Blues, the 24-year-old has found the net 33 times and delivered 37 assists, showcasing how much of an attacking threat he carries from the midfield.
This season has seen the England international make more key passes (30), shot-creating actions (56) and goal-creating actions (7) than any other player at Chelsea, which shows that he is the main creative force in Graham Potter’s side.
With that in mind and the fact that nine clubs have made more goal-creating actions than Newcastle (56) this season, having a player like the Blues midfielder would surely give Howe’s side a boost in terms of their attacking power.
Would you take Mason Mount at Newcastle?
The Toon have a track record when it comes to signing players from fellow English clubs such as Dan Burn, Nick Pope, Matt Targett and Anthony Gordon, meaning that a move for Mount would be in line with some of PIF’s recent transfer business.
Hailed as a player who “ticks all the boxes” by Danny Murphy, we feel Mount would be a star signing for Newcastle and someone they should consider making a move for this summer if the opportunity were to present itself.
