Newcastle United has been mentioned as a potential destination for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

The striker has found himself linked with a move away from his current side recently, with Premier League sides among those reportedly interested in him.

In fact, the player recently revealed his ambition to play in the Premier League one day.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

This has since led to one journalist sharing some details about the Nigerian’s future and even mentioned the Magpies as a potential destination for him.

Speaking to 1 Station Radio, as relayed by Calcio Napoli 1926 (via Sport Witness), journalist Carlo Jacomuzzi had this to say about Osimhen and the possibility of him moving to the Premier League this summer.

He said: “Osimhen in the Premier League? It all depends on the request from the blue club [Napoli]. It’s an entirely economic problem, since I believe there are clubs ready to buy him. There are many clubs capable of shelling out large sums, as well [Manchester] City and United, also pay attention to Newcastle in this sense.

“We’re talking about a player with undisputed qualities who I consider ready to make the leap into the English league. Attacking depth systematically is a characteristic that properly pertains to English football. Among all clubs, it’s Newcastle who are one of those who make use of this principle of play.”

This season has seen the 24-year-old cement his place as one of Europe’s top strikers by scoring 21 goals in 26 appearances for Napoli across all competitions.

Should Newcastle try and sign Victor Osimhen this summer?

In fact, to further highlight his attacking talent, Osimhen, who has been lauded as a “phenomenal” player by journalist Tom Collomosse, has had more shots at goal (90) and more shots on target (35) than any other player in Serie A this season.

Taking into account how Eddie Howe’s side have only scored three goals in their last eight Premier League games, it’s safe to say that someone with the £92k-per-week Napoli star’s goalscoring ability would provide a massive boost to Newcastle’s attacking power.

With all of that in mind, we feel that once the summer transfer window opens, Newcastle should make an approach to Napoli to see what it would take for them to sell their star striker and grant him his wish of playing in the Premier League.
