Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been criticised for his performance and antics during the Red Devils’ recent 7-0 defeat against Liverpool in the Premier League.

After winning the Carabao Cup last weekend and securing their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup in midweek, Erik ten Hag’s side were dragged back down to Earth with a humiliating defeat at Anfield on Sunday.

Following this historic loss, one United player found himself on the end of some significant criticism, not just for his performance but for his general behaviour, attitude and body language on the pitch.

In this quiz, we will take a look at who topped the club's scoring charts and when. First, who was United's top scorer this season?

In a Twitter post, journalist Tom McDermott had this to say about Fernandes and his latest outing for United.

He said: “Bruno has had plenty of support and praise in recent weeks. Yesterday, his performance, effort, and attitude was unacceptable particularly as a captain of #MUFC. It’s as simple as that. No agenda, just facts.”

In terms of his performance, the midfielder had 43 touches of the ball across the full 90 minutes, giving the ball away 14 times in total.

As well as that, the midfielder only had two attempts at goal, both of which were off-target, in addition to losing six of his nine duels, giving three fouls away, being caught offside twice and getting dribbled past on two occasions.

Aside from that, as McDermott mentioned in his tweet, Fernandes’ attitude and behaviour on the pitch were also called into question, particularly by Gary Neville and Roy Keane who described the Portuguese international as a “disgrace” for United among other things.

Was Bruno Fernandes embarrassing against Liverpool?

The Daily Express also picked up on the 27-year-old’s antics by saying this about him in their player ratings article.

They said: “Antics got more embarrassing as the game went on as he increasingly threw his toys out of the pram. Summed up United’s attitude as they completely collapsed.”

With all of that in mind, on what was a monumentality bad day for the club, it’s safe to say that Fernandes didn’t help his side in any way and didn’t behave in the manner that someone donning the captain’s armband of United should do.
