Manchester United have reportedly made an in-house decision over making a potential summer transfer move for Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio.
The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the centre-back previously, but now look to have established their interest in the player.
According to a recent report from Correo da Manha Weekend (via Sport Witness), United have been convinced by Inacio’s performance against Arsenal in the Europa League to launch a summer transfer move for him.
The report also adds that the Portuguese club are aware of the interest in the defender and are looking to pick up €35m (£30m).
With 108 senior appearances for Sporting across all competitions, the 21-year-old has scored 10 goals and delivered eight assists along the way.
In regards to his performance in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Europa League, the centre-back showed how useful he can be at both ends of the pitch.
For example, in addition to scoring Sporting’s first goal of the game, Inacio had two attempts on target in total as well as creating one big chance.
Then from a defensive point of view, the youngster made three clearances, two tackles, one interception and won five of the 10 duels he was involved in.
This ultimately earned the Portuguese defender an overall match rating of 7.3/10 from SofaScore, making him the second-highest rated Sporting player on the day, showing why United have apparently been convinced to launch a summer move for him.
Would you like to see Man United sign Goncalo Inacio?
Yes
No
In terms of his current domestic season, Inacio, who has been described as a “sensation” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has the second-highest average of interceptions per game (1.4) out of players currently at Sporting, as well as the third-highest average of clearances (2.2).
With all of that in mind, and the fact that current United defender Harry Maguire has been linked with a summer exit from Old Trafford, we feel that securing a deal for Inacio would be a smart move for the Red Devils.
