Manchester United could end up seeing Diogo Dalot leave the club this summer should the Red Devils aim to secure a transfer deal for Inter full-back Denzel Dumfries.

It was reported during the previous summer transfer window that Erik ten Hag had the 26-year-old on his list of transfer targets, but ended up not signing him.

Now though, the Netherlands international has been mentioned with a move to Old Trafford once again, this time with the prospect of seeing one of United’s current defenders making his way out of the club to make way for the Inter figure.

In this quiz, we will take a look at who topped the club's scoring charts and when. First, who was United's top scorer this season?

According to a recent report from Italian media outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Inter could look to sell Dumfries this summer, with Erik ten Hag seeing the Dutchman as the type of player he wants in his team.

The report also adds that if Inter do sell Dumfries and aren’t able to bring in their first-choice replacement for the wing-back, Club Brugge’s Tajon Buchanan, they could turn their attention to Dalot, especially if no progress is made towards him signing a new deal at United.

As things stand, the Portugal international is set to enter the final year of his contract at United in the summer.

The full-backs have shown this season in their respective domestic campaigns why it would be the better option for United to keep hold of Dalot rather than risk losing him to bring Dumfries in.

Should Man United secure a new contract for Diogo Dalot?

No

For example, from a defensive point of view, the 23-year-old has made more successful tackles (31 vs 8), interceptions (26 vs 10), blocks (22 vs 20), recoveries (106 vs 58) and clearances (39 vs 19) than the Inter wing-back.

Then from an attacking standpoint, the Old Trafford figure has also made more key passes (25 vs 22), passes into the penalty area (24 vs 18) and progressive passes (59 vs 36) than Dumfries.

Despite being lauded by journalist Jerry Mancini for his “outstanding” performances, the Inter wing-back has shown that it may not be worth United signing him this summer if it means Dalot’s place at the club would be compromised.

With all of that in mind, we feel that the club should focus on securing a new contract for their current right-back rather than try their hand once again at luring Dumfries to Old Trafford.
