BBC pundit and former Rangers player Alan Hutton has backed the Ibrox club to launch a transfer move to sign Morgan Whittaker during the next summer window.

After seeing a bid for the Swansea City winger rejected by the Welsh club back in January, it has since been reported that Rangers have not given up their interest in the player.

This has now led to one pundit making a prediction ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

How well do you remember where Rangers' signings came in from down the years? Take our quiz to find out! First up, Carlos Pena was the Gers' most expensive arrival during the summer of 2017, but where did he join from?

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton had this to say about Rangers’ interest in Whittaker and the possibility of them making another move to sign him.

He said: “Just because it did not happen in January does not mean that they won’t go back in. I think they will. It is obviously a player that Michael Beale likes.

“He gives you a different sort of option from the right, coming in on the left. I think they have missed that area of the pitch since [Joe] Aribo left even though the likes of [Fashion] Sakala have stepped up.

“I think they will revisit it if they can make it happen in the summer. It did not quite work in January but I think it is someone that will still be high up on Michael Beale’s list.”

Should Rangers try and sign Morgan Whittaker again this summer?

At the age of 22, the Englishman has 183 club appearances to his name at senior and youth levels prior to Swansea’s midweek Championship clash against Stoke City, scoring 63 goals and supplying 30 assists in the process.

Having scored nine goals and delivered seven assists in 25 appearances for Plymouth Argyle during his recent loan spell there in the first half of the current season, it’s easy to see why the Gers were after him in January.

To give further insight into what sort of player he is, talent scout, Jacek Kulig, previously described the young attacker as a “flamboyant” winger whose strengths include his pace, acceleration, dribbling, technique, ball control and crossing.

With all of that in mind, we feel that once the summer transfer window rolls around, Rangers should definitely make another approach to sign Whittaker.
