Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has confirmed that Diogo Dalot is ‘not available’ for the Premier League game vs Manchester City this afternoon.

The Red Devils host the Sky Blues in the highly anticipated derby at Old Trafford later today where they will be hoping to continue their excellent six-match unbeaten run.

The Portuguese defender was forced off the pitch in the first half of the 3-0 Carabao Cup victory over Charlton Athletic in midweek, and the boss has now provided a fresh update on his fitness.

Speaking during his Friday pre-match press conference, Ten Hag confirmed that Dalot will be absent from the matchday squad to face City, whilst also delivering news on Anthony Martial. He said:

“I think Diogo Dalot is not available and Anthony Martial, he trained this morning so we have to wait to see how he recovers from this training and if he’s available. We will make the decision tomorrow.”

TIF thoughts on Dalot’s absence…

Dalot has been dubbed a ‘threat’ for United by Josh Bunting, and so it’ll come as a huge blow to Ten Hag to have to be without his services for such an important fixture.

The right-back currently averages 1.9 tackles, the same number of clearances and 1.5 key passes per league game, with two man-of-the-match awards also to his name (WhoScored).

The Braga native’s injury extent yet remains to be seen, but the boss will obviously be hoping to have him back at his disposal as soon as possible.
