Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson has backed Michael Beale to persuade Ryan Kent to continue at the club.

The winger is out of contract at Ibrox at the end of the season, with Football Insider previously reporting that he has rejected the chance to extend his deal.

However, following Beale’s arrival, the 42-year-old said in an interview with Sky Sports that he feels the door is still open for Kent to either commit or go.

Having known him since he was 14, the manager talked about the connection he has with the player and his family, and Ferguson feels that although he thinks Alfredo Morelos will depart, the club may be able to keep hold of their explosive forward.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show he said: “I think Morelos could be on the move.

“Ryan Kent, there could be a possibility that he might stay on because of the relationship he’s had previously with Michael Beale.

“Not just the three years at Ibrox, but he knew him as a young kid coming through at Liverpool, so that could sway him.”

TIF Thoughts on Kent and Rangers…

Do you think Kent will stay?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Ferguson went on to admit that although the Englishman has been out of sorts this season, he has still been ‘dangerous’ – and perhaps Beale will be the man to help him rediscover Kent’s best form.

The former Liverpool academy star scored 28 goals and provided 33 assists in 138 appearances when the Bromley-born tactician was last at the club alongside Steven Gerrard.

He has been described as a ‘passenger’ for his performances this season by journalist Mark Guidi, but no teammate has racked up more assists than his five and he could continue to be a pivotal part of the club moving forward.
