Dean Jones has claimed that stranger things have happened than Alfredo Morelos staying at Rangers next season.

Morelos has looked like a man on the edge at Ibrox this season as his £33k-per-week wages come to an end at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old has also struggled for form and game time this season with him far from the prolific goal scorer he’s been in previous campaigns for the Gers, with him scoring only three SPL goals from 12 games.

All this made it seem that the Colombian was heading out the exit door in January or in the summer with a whimper but Jones has now told This Is Futbol that he wouldn’t be surprised if he penned a new deal.

“Things can turn so quickly and let’s see how he does when play resumes. I mean, if he helps (Michael) Beale get off to a flying start, stranger things have happened,” Jones said.

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

Morelos is an incredibly popular figure at Ibrox with his 116 Rangers career goals cementing himself as one of the icons of the club’s rise back to the top of the SPL.

With all the previous brilliance that the 26-year-old has produced it would be disappointing to see him leave Ibrox in this fashion but as Jones said, a new manager means a new start and that could be what kicks Morelos back into gear. This was evident in Beale’s first game in charge as the South American managed to grab a goal.

Beale previously worked with Morelos during the SPL title winning campaign of 2020/21 where the talisman bagged 17 goals and 13 assists, so if he can get his striker back up to that level and enjoying his football again, it could prove as simple as that for pen to be put to paper for more campaigns and success at Ibrox.
