Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Rangers starlet Leon King is to sign a new deal to keep him at Ibrox.
The 18-year-old has made 20 appearances this season after breaking into the first team and his performances were impressive enough that they gathered interest from some top clubs.
The centre-back appeared in each of Rangers’ Champions League matches but was unable to stop them crashing out of a tough group, but he is going from strength to strength at the club.
With his current deal expiring at the end of next season, Manchester United, amongst others, were reportedly scouting his performances – but he is now set to stay.
Speaking on the Here We Go podcast, Romano confirmed that despite interest in him from elsewhere, King was about to commit his future to the club.
He stated: “Talented centre-back from Rangers, the Scottish player will sign a new deal in the next days until 2026.
“Manchester United and many other clubs have sent their scouts to follow him also in the Champions League, but he is staying at Rangers with a new deal until 2026.”
TIF Thoughts on Leon King…
Securing the future of one of their brightest young talents is a big boost for Rangers and manager Michael Beale, and he may prove to be a highly valuable asset.
The latest academy product after Nathan Patterson, who successfully graduated before earning a move to Everton, King is impressing at a very young age in his position, and this early experience can prove beneficial in his development.
It remains to be seen whether he will still continue to get game time under Beale or the new manager will opt to sign more experienced players, but the teenager now has plenty of opportunities to continue his development at the club.
