Journalist Rob Guest has claimed that Oliver Skipp could get a chance to impress at Tottenham Hotspur in their next league game with Rodrigo Bentancur suspended.

The Uruguayan midfielder was booked in Spurs’ final game before the break for the World Cup, having also scored two vital goals in the 4-3 win over Leeds United.

This was Bentancur’s fifth yellow card up to this stage in the Premier League season, and will now miss the club’s first game back in action, which sees Spurs travel away to Brentford.

And so, another midfielder will have to take his place. While talking about it recently, Guest suggested it was a ‘big opportunity’ for Skipp, though Yves Bissouma could also be trusted in the role.

On Twitter, he wrote: “Big opportunity coming up for one of Yves Bissouma or Oliver Skipp at Brentford on Boxing Day.”

In a further article by Guest for football.london, the journalist explained how Bentancur has been ‘wowing with some eye-catching displays in the heart of midfield’, so he won’t be an easy man to replace.

Spurs still have a few weeks of training to go before they return to action, so Bissouma and Skipp will no doubt be desperate to impress manager Antonio Conte to earn a spot in the starting XI.

Sadly, the English midfielder started the season with injury and has consequently struggled to get regular minutes. Indeed, Skipp has just two starts in the league so far this term.

Perhaps a third against Brentford could kickstart his campaign at last.
