Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool appear to have missed out on transfer target Konrad Laimer.

Liverpool were being heavily linked with a move for the Austrian central midfielder over the last few months as his contract with RB Leipzig was edging closer to its expiry next summer, but that dream looks to have gone.

This is because Romano has confirmed that Laimer will not be joining Liverpool after opting to stay in the Bundesliga and join champions Bayern Munich, which will be a big blow for Jurgen Klopp.

Romano spoke on his YouTube channel about how Liverpool had recently left the race for Laimer amid news he has agreed to join Bayern Munich.

“An update also on Liverpool – they have left the race for Konrad Laimer, the midfielder of RB Leipzig, he was on the list last summer before signing Arthur Melo, but there was no time to complete the agreement with RB Leipzig, they decided to keep the player.

“For Konrad Laimer, nothing will happen with Liverpool or English clubs in general.

“There is an agreement ready with Bayern. Konrad Laimer, 99% waiting to sign the contracts, will be a new Bayern player in 2023.

Will Liverpool regret not signing Laimer?

No!

“There is a verbal agreement ready, Laimer wants Bayern, Naglesmann wants Laimer since he arrived at Bayern in 2021, so it’s something that was discussed already many times.”

TIF Thoughts on Liverpool missing out on Laimer…

If summer signing Melo being extremely injury-prone and having yet to make a slight impact at Liverpool wasn’t a big enough blow for the Reds when looking back on their summer business, missing out on Laimer altogether certainly will be.

While reports have suggested that Liverpool are indeed seen as frontrunners to sign young England sensation Jude Bellingham, a transfer is by no means guaranteed, so missing out on Laimer has to be seen as a blow.

Laimer choosing Bayern over Liverpool could be a sign of the times, with Sadio Mane leaving the Reds for the Bundesliga giants in the summer, which could be a worry for Klopp and the club moving forward as they may not be seen as much of an attractive club as they were a few seasons ago.
