Journalist Dean Jones believes it is difficult to see Tottenham Hotspur bringing Denzel Dumfries to the club when the market reopens.

As per 90min, Spurs have enquired about the possibility of bringing in the Netherlands international this January.

Dumfries made his mark in Qatar with a goal and two assists in their last-16 clash against the United States as his nation marched into the last eight of the World Cup.

The source suggests that the Lilywhites are now thinking about bringing the Inter right-back to the club this winter and could potentially sell Emerson Royal.

However, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (via FC Inter News), the 26-year-old could cost around €60m (£52m), meaning he won’t come cheap.

Having assessed the situation, Jones has claimed that it is unlikely Fabio Paratici would be able to bring the £55k-per-week defender to north London in the next transfer window.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, he said: “I don’t see it as one that’s happening in January. I mentioned this to a couple of people recently and haven’t had particularly positive messages back that it’s expected to happen at all.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments….

Do you think Dumfries would be a good signing?

With his contract not expiring until the summer of 2025, Inter will be in no rush to sell the 41-cap Dumfries.

However, given the exposure he has recently had on the world stage, this winter could be the most opportune time for the Serie A giants to sell.

His asking price is likely to increase if the Dutch go much further in the tournament, and the extent to which Daniel Levy is willing to open his chequebook midway through the season is unknown.

But with Chelsea also circling, Antonio Conte could yet persuade the hierarchy to get this one over the line in January.
