Journalist Andy Naylor has been left baffled by the apparent price tag on Tottenham Hotspur target Alexis Mac Allister.

Mac Allister was one of the stars of the World Cup as he helped Argentina to their first triumph since 1986.

The Brighton & Hove Albion man has produced some breathtaking displays for the Albion during his three years on the south coast, but has now shown the world what he produces on a weekly basis in the Premier League.

Mac Allister has started every game in the Premier League under Graham Potter and Roberto De Zerbi, with him playing a key role in the Seagulls’ strong showing this season, as well as last campaign’s ninth-place finish.

Interest has understandably spiked in the 23-year-old, with Tottenham linked with a €35m (£30m) swoop by CalciomercatoWeb – something that Brighton correspondent Naylor believes is far from an accurate valuation.

He tweeted: “£30m? So, they only want to sign part of him?”

TIF Thoughts on Naylor’s comments…

Mac Allister has become one of Brighton’s main men, with him emerging out of the shadow of Yves Bissouma over the last 12 months in the Seagulls’ midfield.

Alongside his performances in Qatar, his price tag would be reaching figures nearer Marc Cucurella’s move to Chelsea of up to £60m – and especially after penning an extension until 2025, the Argentinian’s fee will surely demand well over the £30m quoted.

Even still, we think Mac Allister would be a perfect addition to Spurs’ midfield, with Antonio Conte lacking alternative options to Rodrigo Bentancur, who is the Lilywhites’ main attacking threat from centre-midfield at present with three strikes in as many Premier League games.

Mac Allister’s assist in the World Cup final proved he has the composure and quality to produce moments in big games, while his five league goals this season would also rank him second for Premier League goals amongst Spurs’ squad, so we are not surprised Tottenham are reportedly interested in his services.
