Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Newcastle United transfer target Joao Felix has a very good chance of leaving.

The Sunday Mirror (via The Express) have tipped Newcastle to make a move for Felix with Atletico Madrid reportedly open to letting the attacker leave in 2023 having failed to impress out in Spain following his big-money move.

Felix was signed for £113 million back in 2019 but certainly, hasn’t repaid the club with goal involvements managing to register just 51 in 129 appearances for the La Liga giants and this has seen him seemingly edge closer to the exit door.

Romano has now claimed on the House of Champions YouTube channel that Felxi has a great chance of leaving because of his frosty relationship with Diego Simeone.

(0:05) “I think there is a very good chance [Felix leaves in January] and the relationship between Joao Felix and Diego Simeone, from what I’m told, is really difficult, but more than difficult.

“He’s not in the starting eleven at Atletico Madrid and this is a big problem for a player with the qualities and skills of Joao Felix so he wants to leave and Atletico Madrid, in an official position Miguel Angel Gil Marin CEO of the club, a few days ago he stated we are open to listening to proposals for Joao Felix.

Could Newcastle sign Felix in January?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“They want more than €100 million, so let’s see who is going to be ready to invest that kind of money on a player who is not a traditional number nine in a January transfer window, so not an easy one but what we can say is that his agent, Jorge Mendes, is speaking to many clubs including English clubs, but not just English clubs also French clubs like PSG.

“Everything is open at the moment, it will take time it’s not something that’s going to happen in the next days but Joao Felix has very good chances to leave Atletico Madrid in January.”

TIF Thoughts on Joao Felix interest…

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

It would be a major coup for Newcastle to land a talent such as Felix who’s played in the Champions League for a number of years and is a regular within the Portuguese national side, although the transfer fee is likely to be a big stumbling block.

As Romano claimed above, Atletico Madrid are said to want more than €100 million (£87 million) and that would certainly see PIF smash the club’s record signing for the second time in a matter of months.

Given that reports have claimed Newcastle aren’t looking to be very active and flash with their money in January, it would certainly be a shock for PIF to then turn around and willingly spend so much money on an attacker, albeit a ‘special‘ one according to his club teammate Alvaro Morata.
