Journalist Aaron Stokes has spoken on the Everything is Black and White podcast about how Newcastle United recently held a transfer meeting in Saudi Arabia.

Since the takeover of Newcastle, PIF have had a sublime success rate when it comes to transfers, with the only one that hasn’t been a huge hit on Tyneside being Chris Wood, but he came into the side last season and did his job well enough to help keep the club in the Premier League.

Therefore, it would be natural for fans to be getting excited heading into January to see what rabbits Newcastle can pull out of the hat this time around, as last winter they managed to land Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes.

Stokes has insisted that plans are well and truly in place heading into next month after a recent transfer meeting involving Eddie Howe.

He said: “They’ve had dialogue over the last couple of months, we know they had a meeting in Saudi Arabia during the warm-weather trip. There will be these discussions and I’m sure Eddie Howe has got in his mind one or two positions he would love to strengthen.”

Will Newcastle be active next month?

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s transfer plans…

It has been widely reported that Newcastle aren’t going to go crazy in the January transfer window with spending expected to be limited, especially compared to how much has been shelled out over the last two windows.

Howe will likely be keen for some additions next month to ensure that his side don’t lose their grip on the top four, which they have duly earned to this point – and he’ll know that just a few injuries could derail their campaign.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

PIF will be conscious about their spending against Financial Fair Play regulations moving forward and won’t want to put the club in an awkward position in coming windows where they have to sell before they can buy, as that will only slow down their progress.

But it appears they have a plan in place, and we are intrigued to see just how it all pans out over the coming weeks.
