Ben Jacobs has confirmed that Newcastle United are interested in signing Mykhailo Mudryk and have even approached his agent about what the situation is with the winger.

Mudryk is attracting a whole load of interest from Premier League clubs such as Newcastle and Arsenal which is no surprise given the scintillating form he’s been in this season with 18 goal involvements across all competitions.

While not many people will be familiar with Mudryk’s performances out in Ukraine with Shakhtar Donetsk, but they will have seen him tearing up the Champions League group stages helping his side stay in Europe with three goals and two assists. But, it remains to be seen as to whether PIF will pay the attacker’s supposed £86 million transfer fee.

Despite being interested, Jacobs has claimed on the NUFC Matters YouTube channel Newcastle are further back in the race for Mudryk.

(49:10) “Mudryk is another one at Shakhtar that could easily go during the winter, Newcastle are one of the clubs that have looked at him but they are behind a lot of rivals and they certainly haven’t made as many enquiries or held any club to club talks with Shakhtar yet but they’ve gone to Mudryk’s agent to find out the lay of the land.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s interest in Mudryk…

Given how open and honest Mudryk has been when it comes to his love for Arsenal amidst the interest from the Gunners, it would be a shock and a major coup for the Magpies to land the winger next month.

The Magpies are seemingly set to be in the market for a new winger in January as they are said to have Georgian ace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia right at the top of their shopping list for next month, although he would come with a hefty price tag.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Therefore, if they can land Mudryk for cheaper or around the same price they may well move for him and look to leapfrog Arsenal in the pursuit of the winger, although that would be a huge ask for PIF.
