Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth believes that Manchester United could bring Cody Gakpo in this January.

His verdict arrives amid reports that the Dutchman’s current employers are open to selling him this January.

The 23-year-old scored in all three of the Netherlands’ group games at the World Cup before they ultimately bowed out in the quarter-finals.

He has only enhanced his reputation as a result and has recently admitted that he would consider a move to Old Trafford should an offer arrive.

PSV have reportedly set an asking price of £50m, and after positive signs, Sheth feels United may now bring their transfer plans forward to the upcoming window.

He told GiveMeSport: “They have got options up front in Anthony Martial and we know that Marcus Rashford can play down the middle as well.

“I just wonder whether Erik ten Hag will see this window as an opportunity. If he can get a deal for someone like Gakpo done, he might just go for it because United are in that position where they are showing encouraging signs under Erik ten Hag.”

It would certainly be a positive sign from the United hierarchy should they choose to pursue Gakpo in January.

He has shone for his club and country this season, having been directly involved in 30 goals in 24 appearances for PSV.

Last season, he scored 21 goals and provided 15 assistsan attacking return worthy of a hefty price tag.

Former Netherlands midfielder Theo Janssen lauded his talents, saying he ‘has everything’ and he could well be a key part of Erik ten Hag’s plans moving forward if Sheth’s hunch comes to fruition.
