Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Liverpool transfer target Enzo Fernandez has a huge release clause in his contract of around £103m.

Fernandez has been linked with a move to Liverpool as they continue to look for a midfielder to succeed some of the old guard such as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho that has been around the club for a long time now.

However, after impressing at the World Cup with Argentina, helping them get to a semi-final at the very least, he may well have a lot more suitors and force interested clubs to pay his full release clause to get him out of Benfica, particularly next month.

But this may be rather unlikely, as Romano has revealed on his YouTube channel that it stands at €120m (£103m).

He said: “Also, on Enzo Fernandez, many rumours around this fantastic Argentinian player. Important to clarify – first point; Benfica want to keep the player in January, so only crazy things can change this story.

“Second point, it’s true that Liverpool and Real Madrid are interested, but at the moment, they are not negotiating with Benfica; third point, there is a release clause in the contract of Enzo Fernandez and it is €120 million.”

TIF Thoughts on Fernadez…

It’s no surprise that Benfica aren’t willing to lose Fernandez mid-season unless they receive a crazy offer, as he has been key for them this campaign, featuring in every league game and helping them remain in the Champions League while sitting top of the Portuguese league.

Therefore, Liverpool may well have a tough decision on their hands come the summer as they won’t likely be able to sign both Fernandez and Jude Bellingham, who they’re also heavily linked with, as that would take an obscene amount of money.

Given that Liverpool are said to be leading the race for Bellingham, he could be the one for them, but if more teams become interested in the star midfielder after his World Cup showing, Fernandez could be a more viable option if they can strike a deal without meeting his release clause.
