Journalist David Lynch has described the latest injury update on Liverpool’s Luis Diaz as ‘a huge blow’.

Speaking on the Blood Red YouTube channel, he also believes that it will make people question if the initial diagnosis was correct.

The Colombian returned to training with the squad in Dubai, with his rehab reportedly going according to plan.

However, it appears that after undergoing surgery, Diaz may not be back for another three months, according to a recent piece from The Athletic.

This could mean that the club will have spent six months for the 25-year-old to return from injury, with Diaz having suffered the initial injury back in October.

Lynch stated: “It’s a huge blow. It sort of makes you question things a little bit as well in terms of, was the initial diagnosis correct, will Liverpool feel that the processes should have been better around that?

“Because it doesn’t look great when you don’t opt to go down the surgery route initially, and then the player comes back, essentially, and is ready to go and then still feels discomfort, and then you do have to have surgery and look at it again.

“And now, you’re losing basically six months of the season from him, which is just a major blow.”

TIF Thoughts on Lynch’s comments…

We believe that it’s not a good look for whoever was assessing Diaz’s injury. He likely wasn’t clear to come back, or perhaps he was all good to go before suffering a tweak upon returning.

Either way, it will be a massive blow for Liverpool. Before the injury, the Colombian was a real threat for the Reds, with Diaz picking up five goal contributions in eight games.

The 25-year-old made to move to Anfield from Porto back in January for £37m. In the league, he picked up seven goal contributions from 13 league games, showing he’s been a key attacking threat since joining the club.

Diaz’s injury only adds to Liverpool’s injury woes as Diogo Jota suffered a calf injury just a week later, but he isn’t expected to be back until February, according to The Athletic.

We feel Jurgen Klopp must decide whether he looks to bring in more options in the January transfer market or look within his squad to fill the gaps until Diaz and Jota return, with both options looking like a gamble at this point.
