Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Liverpool are not in discussions over signing Cody Gakpo.
Speaking to GiveMeSport last month, fellow transfer guru Dean Jones claimed that the Reds had been monitoring the PSV forward ‘very closely’ ahead of a potential move.
Jones said that any pursuit would be determined by how their squad shapes up ahead of the season’s resumption, and considering Luis Diaz has been ruled out for another three months, it could prompt Jurgen Klopp to act.
Manchester United have also been heavily linked with the Dutchman, and Romano was discussing the 23-year-old’s future on The United Stand YouTube channel when he provided some insight into Liverpool’s stance.
He said: “There is competition because there are clubs informed, but honestly, on all the rumours I saw like ‘Liverpool in talks for Gakpo’ – from what I’m told, at the moment, there are no talks between Liverpool and Gakpo.”

Do you expect Liverpool to spend in January?YesNo |
Given that Klopp is now without Diaz and Diogo Jota, he may well need to recruit reinforcements going forward this winter.
However, given FSG’s willingness to sell the club, one is left to wonder if this will affect their level of investment in the side.
Nonetheless, Gakpo would be a dynamic threat in attack considering he has been directly involved in 30 goals in 24 appearances for his club this season.
He was on the scoresheet three times for the Netherlands at the World Cup also and showed his ability to play as a No 9.
Romano has previously claimed that he has ‘something special’, and it will be interesting to see if the 14-cap international features in Liverpool’s transfer plans in the coming weeks.
