Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Wolves winger Adama Traore would be a good fit for Leeds United’s style of play.

The Spaniard is out of contract at the end of the season, and is not close to signing an extension to stay at Molineux according to Romano.

New manager Julen Lopetegui may try to convince him to sign fresh terms, but if he cannot then the 26-year-old may be available in January.

Leeds are looking for attacking reinforcements, and Romano thinks the former Barcelona academy product could fit Jesse Marsch’s side well.

“At the moment there’s nothing advanced with other clubs, but Adama Traore could be a name to watch on the market because there’s not been much progress over talks for a new contract with Wolves,” Romano stated on his Daily Briefing.

“I personally think Leeds would be a very good move for him for their style of football.”

TIF thoughts on Adama Traore and Leeds…

Although he could inject some pace into the Leeds side, it is questionable whether Traore – dubbed a “monster” by Xavi – actually fits the style of play Marsch is implementing at Elland Road.

His explosiveness would be very useful in a counter-attacking side, but Leeds average the sixth-most possession in the league.

In games where Leeds sit back and counter, such as their dramatic victory over Liverpool in October where they only had 31% of the ball, then the Wolves star could be useful, but it remains to be seen how effective he can be with less space to run into than he currently receives.

With two goals in 14 appearances this season he is not the most clinical attacker, and Leeds may be better off looking elsewhere to replace the goalscoring qualities that Raphinha used to provide before he moved to Barcelona.
