Presenter Conor McGilligan has urged Leeds United to avoid handing out a new contract to veteran midfielder Adam Forshaw.

As per Transfermarkt, the 31-year-old will see his current deal expire in the summer of 2023. And so with about six months left, the Whites will soon have to make a call on his future.

The Englishman has barely played at all this season but is currently away with Leeds in Spain on a training camp as they prepare for the return of Premier League action.

In light of his current situation, while talking on the One Leeds Fan Channel, McGilligan has claimed that it would be a ‘joke’ if the club were to offer Forshaw a new contract.

He said: “We can’t extend his contract, it’s just a joke. I really hope not, anyway, that would just… that would send me over the edge.”

TIF Thoughts on Adam Forshaw and Leeds United…

Up to this point in the current campaign, the 31-year-old has played just 47 minutes in the league across three substitute appearances. Clearly, manager Jesse Marsch doesn’t rate him that highly.

However, the Whites have struggled for form and consistency, so the American coach may look to mix things up in the second half of the season. If that is the case, perhaps Forshaw could get some more minutes.

Having played 82 times for Leeds, the midfielder certainly should be ready to come in and make an impact straight away. If he does. he could possibly earn himself a contract extension before the season is over.

However, that seems pretty unlikely at this stage given he has hardly played under Marsch this term, so we believe the chances are that Forshaw will be off in the summer and McGilligan will have nothing to worry about.
