Presenter and YouTuber Joe Wainman believes that Jesse Marsch could be the ‘deciding factor’ in bringing Matheus Cunha to Leeds United.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo recently claimed that Leeds were interested in signing the 23-year-old forward.

Meanwhile, director of football Victor Orta is said to be a huge admirer of the Atletico Madrid ace, and it is believed that the Elland Road outfit are in a position to cut a deal should they wish.

Cunha is thought to be available for €30-35m (£26-30m), but in a potential blow to the Whites’ hopes, Fabrizio Romano has recently said that Wolves are in negotiations with Atleti.

However, having worked with Marsch during the American’s time as assistant manager at RB Leipzig in the 2018/19 season, Wainman feels the West Yorkshire club may have an ace up their sleeve.

Speaking on the JustJoe Football Show, he said: “A massive feather in our cap, though, is of course Mr. America himself, Jesse Marsch, because he has managed Matheus Cunha before.

“And we know from history that players that have worked with Jesse, they’re very, very big on him. So that could be the deciding factor that seals the deal.”

As we saw in the summer, Marsch was keen to reunite with some of the players he has previously coached.

Rasmus Kristensen arrived at RB Salzburg the same season the 49-year-old was appointed at Leipzig, while Tyler Adams, who was coming through the ranks at New York Red Bulls during Marsch’s tenure there, was also recruited in Germany – before bringing the duo to Leeds.

Hopefully, that past relationship works a treat for the Whites once again considering former Inter player Paolo Tramezzani dubbed him ‘incredible’.

However, it does remain to be seen whether that affiliation pays dividends come January.
