Journalist Adam Pope has claimed that Leeds United ace Patrick Bamford has undergone surgery due to a new groin injury.

After a stunning first season in the Premier League with Leeds which saw Bamford net 17 goals, the striker struggled to replicate anything near that and has only started 11 league games since the beginning of the last campaign.

Bamford has started just four times under Jesse Marsch this term, and with Rodrigo now in the form of his Leeds career, it appears to be a long way back to regain his first-team spot – and the final nail in his coffin could well be this latest groin injury.

Pope has claimed on the Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet podcast that Bamford has had surgery on his groin in Germany due to a new injury problem.

“A lot of people are saying why are they [Leeds] sending him just now to get his groin done in Berlin? The truth is, as I’ve been told, is that it’s a recent problem – it wasn’t an old problem or the old groin injury.

Is Bamford good enough to start for Leeds?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“So that’s why that has happened and it’s being dealt with by the best possible in the world apparently, in terms of the surgeon that’s doing it or the specialist. The idea is that he should be running pretty soon, but I agree with you, I’d be amazed – not that I’m a doctor – [if] he’d be back for Man City.”

TIF Thoughts on Bamford…

It’s no surprise that Leeds are being linked with strikers already before the transfer window has opened given this latest injury sustained by Bamford, with the likes of Pedro and Matheus Cunha’s names on everyone’s lips.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

After making his England debut in 2021, Bamford has not been able to maintain any sort of fitness levels that are good enough for Leeds or any other Premier League side for that matter – and that’s essentially seen over a year of his career pass him by.

Bamford will be hoping that after getting this reportedly world-class surgery on his groin, that all his problems in that area of his leg can be put to bed and he can start to kick on and make up for lost time.
