Fabrizio Romano has admitted he can’t see Arsenal signing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in January after speaking to his sources.

The Serbian midfielder has been a regular out in Italy for a number of years now starring in a Lazio side that have continuously been pushing for European football but with his contract set to expire in 2024, his future is now up in the air with Arsenal said to be interested.

Despite Arsenal seemingly focussing mainly on Mykhailo Mudryk, reports have suggested that the Gunners could try and land Milinkovic-Savic next month, although Romano believes that will be very difficult to do.

This is because after speaking to his source at Lazio, Romano has claimed on The House of Champions YouTube channel that the club are confident of keeping the Serbian until the summer.

Who would you rather Arsenal signed?

He said: (13:00) “It’s not an easy one at all to sign Milinkovic-Savic in January. I was speaking to Lazio sources a few days ago and they are 100% convinced that the player will stay there at least until the end of the season.

“He’s out of contract next year in 2024 and this is why there are many rumours around Milinkovic. Lazio will try to extend his contract and will try to negotiate, but their expectation is for the player to stay in January and they’ve not received any approach from Arsenal or any other club or any official bid.”

TIF Thoughts on Arsenal’s interest in Milinkovic-Savic…

Given that Arsenal don’t have much strength in depth when it comes to the centre of midfield, recruiting someone of Milinkovic-Savic’s experience and pedigree would be a top signing, but it certainly doesn’t appear to be the club’s priority.

Aubameyang injury update at Arsenal

Where did Arsenal sign these players from, let's start with an easy one! Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

With the injury to Gabriel Jesus, Mikel Arteta clearly wants to add more goals to his side and while Milinkovic-Savic has five goals to his name this season, Mudryk would be a far better and more reliable option for the Gunners as he plays as an attacking winger.

However, if the Serbian midfielder hasn’t signed a new contract when the summer transfer window rolls around then Arsenal could well put forward an attractive offer for both Lazio and Milinkovic-Savic, especially if they can provide him with Champions League football.
