Pundit Darren Bent has urged Arsenal to go out and sign striker Ivan Toney in the January transfer market after his most recent display.
On Boxing Day, Premier League football returned and the Gunners managed to pick up an impressive 3-1 win, with goals from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah getting the job done.
Elsewhere, Toney was on form for Brentford as he scored in the 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur – and it seems he did enough in his performance to have Bent calling out for a winter transfer move to Arsenal amid the injury to Gabriel Jesus.
Indeed, the Talksport pundit wrote on Twitter to make the big claim, saying: “Ivan Toney would fit the Arsenal style perfectly.”
TIF Thoughts on Ivan Toney and Arsenal…
Toney certainly showed his quality against Spurs in his most recent match. Indeed, as per Sofascore, he got his goal, won four fouls, won seven duels, and made one block and one tackle.
On top of that, the Gunners may need to sign some new forwards this winter with Gabriel Jesus set to spend a decent spell on the sidelines after picking up a serious injury at the World Cup with Brazil.
However, backup striker Nketiah did get his name on the scoresheet against West Ham United. What’s more, Toney has recently been charged by the FA for breaching their betting rules, so it remains to be seen what happens there in the long term.
All in all, as much as Toney could make a good signing for Arsenal, having scored 11 league goals this season, it doesn’t feel as if this deal is likely to happen any time soon.
